The next generation! Melissa McCarthy‘s daughters may take after their mom in some ways, but the comedian admitted that “they’re better” than she was when it comes to confidence.
“They’re really smart and funny, weird,” the Can You Ever Forgive Me star, 48, told reporters at the Santa Barbara Film Festival on Sunday, February 3, where the actress accepted the Montecito Award. “I think they’re better [than me]. They’re further along in their young lives than I was. I feel like I had to push almost 30 to get their kind of confidence, so I love seeing that.”
The Love the Way You Look author admitted that while there are some difficulties when it comes to parenting, there are “more joys than challenges.” She added: “The challenges are just, ‘Am I doing enough?’ and being surprised and amazed by my girls.”
McCarthy and her husband of 13 years, Ben Falcone, have two children together. The couple welcomed Vivian in 2007 and Georgette three years later.
They’re raising their little ones to be strong, McCarthy told Us Weekly in October 2018. “I tell my kids all the time, like, you are the one that determines your self-worth,” she said at the time. “Not what other people think of you. I think we do so much now of, ‘What do you think of me?’ ‘Look at my vacation, do you like it?'”
The Oscar nominee’s eldest has followed in her mom’s footsteps, appearing in McCarthy’s 2016 movie The Boss as a younger version of her mom’s character. That technically wasn’t the first time Vivian was on the big screen, though. Back when the Bridesmaids actress was expecting her first daughter on the set of Gilmore Girls, her pregnancy was written into the show.
