Baby on board! Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife, Sophie Hunter, are expecting their third child together.
The couple are parents of sons Christopher, 3, (who they call Kit) and Hal, 18 months. Hunter, 40, debuted her small baby bump in a yellow dress on the red carpet at the 2018 Emmys on Monday, September 17, with Cumberbatch, 42.
Cumberbatch is nominated for his role in Showtime’s five-part mini series Patrick Melrose. He opened up about receiving his sixth nomination to the Los Angeles Times back in July.
“I was in a car going home from East London where we’re doing some filming for a show about Brexit, and my phone just blew,” Cumberbatch revealed. “I thought, ‘Whoa, what’s going on here, is there a malfunction?’ But then I saw, ‘Congratulations, huge love,’ and what not, and that’s how I found out. It was quite lovely.”
The actor also reacted to the news that he is now tied with Laurence Olivier for the second most ever nominations in the limited series category.
“It’s amazing. I don’t know what to say about that really. That’s something to put on your gravestone,” Cumberbatch joked. “I don’t know — yeah, I’m speechless. That’s my very English reaction to that. Maybe I should try other categories? Art direction?”
Cumberbatch and Hunter tied the knot on Valentine’s Day in 2015 fours months before they welcomed their first son. They met in 2009 while filming Burlesque Fairytales.
