Cool, can you pass the syrup? When Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof’s daughters learned of their dad’s Emmy nod in July, they were more concerned with their breakfast.
“They were like, ‘Can we just have our pancakes?’” Hannigan, 44, recalled to Us Weekly at the Television Academy’s Performer Peer Group Celebration in Los Angeles on Monday, August 20. “I kept going, ‘This is a really big deal, this is really exciting.”
The I Love Bekka & Lucy star, who was nominated in the “Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series” category, pointed out that the girls are still young. Satyana is 9, while Keeva is just 6. “I think they were puzzled,” Denisof, 52, admitted to Us. “I don’t think they had a clue what it was.”
The How I Met Your Mother alum made up for the kids’ unenthusiastic reaction. “I’ve never been a nominee, so I’m super excited,” she gushed to Us. “I’m living vicariously through him.” Quipped Denisof: “I think she’s almost more excited than I am, and I’m pretty excited.”
To get ready for the award show that will be held on September 17, Hannigan joked that the kids should give their father a facial. “He might show up with Sharpie on his face,” she teased. “And some whipped cream maybe.”
The couple met on the Buffy the Vampire set in 1999 and tied the knot in October 2003. The Angel actor re-proposed in 2013, and they renewed their vows on their 10-year wedding anniversary. Hannigan gushed to Us at the time, “He’s the most romantic husband.”
The 2018 Emmy Awards air on NBC Monday, September 17, at 8 p.m. ET.
