Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy is a professional golfer and one of the most successful players of his generation. Born in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland, McIlroy was introduced to golf by his father at a young age and quickly emerged as a child prodigy. He became a member of Hollywood Golf Club at age 7 and won numerous amateur competitions before rising to No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking as a teenager. McIlroy left school in 2005 to focus on golf full time and turned professional in 2007.

McIlroy quickly rose to fame in the golf world. After establishing himself on the European Tour, he earned his first European Tour victory in 2009 and his first PGA Tour win in 2010. He captured his first major championship at the 2011 U.S. Open, becoming one of golf’s brightest young stars. By age 25, he had won four major championships and reached No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Among his most notable achievements are victories at the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, the PGA Championship and the Masters Tournament. His 2025 Masters win completed the career Grand Slam, making him the first European golfer and just the sixth player in history to win all four major championships. McIlroy has also won multiple Ryder Cups with Team Europe, three FedEx Cup titles and numerous PGA Tour and European Tour honors, including PGA Tour Player of the Year awards.

McIlroy married Erica Stoll in 2017 after meeting through the golf world. The couple welcomed daughter Poppy Kennedy McIlroy (born in 2020). In 2024, McIlroy filed for divorce before the pair reconciled and remained together.
