Gary Oldman is an Oscar-winning actor known for his transformative performances in films ranging from prestige dramas to major blockbusters. Oldman was born and raised in London, England, where he left school at 16 and worked various jobs before pursuing acting. He trained at the Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, graduating in 1979 with a degree in acting.

He began his career in theater with the Royal Shakespeare Company before breaking out on screen in the 1980s. Oldman gained early attention for portraying Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy (1986) and Joe Orton in Prick Up Your Ears (1987). His intensity and versatility quickly made him a standout, leading to high-profile roles throughout the 1990s.

Oldman became known for acclaimed performances in JFK (1991), Dracula (1992), Leon: The Professional (1994) and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011). He reached new levels of mainstream success playing Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films and Commissioner Gordon in The Dark Knight trilogy. He later won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour (2017). In 2022, he joined the cast of Slow Horses as Jackson Lamb, and the following year, he portrayed Harry Truman in Oppenheimer (2023).

Oldman has been married five times, including to Lesley Manville, Uma Thurman, Donya Fiorentino and Alexandra Edenborough. He married writer Gisele Schmidt in 2017. He has three sons: Alfie (born in 1988), Gulliver (born in 1997) and Charlie (born in 1999).
