About

Colin Firth is an Academy Award-winning actor. Born in Grayshott, England, Firth spent part of his childhood in Nigeria and the U.S. due to his parents’ academic careers. He later went on to study acting at the Drama Centre London.

Firth began his ascent on stage and television in the early 1980s, first acting in the play Another Country before gaining widespread recognition for his portrayal of Mr. Darcy in the 1995 BBC miniseries Pride & Prejudice. He later went on to star in films such as A Thousand Acres (1997), Relative Values (2000) and The Importance of Being Earnest (2002).

He gained high acclaim for his portrayal of King George VI in The King’s Speech (2010), for which he received the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was also awarded a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and a BAFTA Award for the role. He has also appeared in box-office hits such as Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001), Love Actually (2003), Mamma Mia! (2008), A Single Man (2009) and Kingsman (2014).

Firth dated actress Meg Tilly from 1989 to 1994, with whom he shares son William (born in 1990). He married Italian film producer Livia Giuggioli in 1997; they have two sons, Luca (born in 2001) and Matteo (born in 2003). The couple announced their separation in 2019.
