Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett is an Australian actress known for her versatile performances across film and theater. Blanchett is a native of Melbourne, Australia, where she went on to study business administration at the University of Melbourne. She later pursued acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, where she graduated in 1992.

Blanchett began her career at the Sydney Theatre Company before transitioning to film in the late 1990s. She landed her first onscreen appearance in the 1990 film Kaboria, and her breakthrough came with her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in Elizabeth (1998). The movie earned her her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and established her as a leading actress in Hollywood.

She went on to star in films including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Aviator (2004), Blue Jasmine (2013), Carol (2015) and Tár (2023). Blanchett has won two Academy Awards, for The Aviator and Blue Jasmine, along with multiple Golden Globes and BAFTAs. She is also known for her work on stage and as a former coartistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company. Some of her later projects include Don’t Look Up (2021), Badlands (2024) and Father Mother Sister Brother (2025). On television, she’s appeared in Heartland, Mrs. America and Squid Game.

Blanchett wed playwright Andrew Upton in 1997. The couple share four children: Dashiell (born in 2001), Roman (born in 2004), Ignatius (born in 2008) and Edith (born in 2015).
