Mother-daughter time! Tina Knowles-Lawson has big plans for Mother’s Day with Beyoncé.
“I’m going to be in Europe with my daughter,” Knowles-Lawson told Us Weekly exclusively at the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 5. Beyoncé’s travels will also likely keep her from attending the Met Gala on Monday, May 7. The “Formation” singer and husband Jay-Z are in Europe for their OTR II tour rehearsals.
The designer said she hopes her family’s Mother’s Day traditions will carry over across the pond: “We [usually] have brunch. Either I cook or we go to brunch, and I would love to cook for them, so hopefully I get to do that.” She also shared that they’ll be dining on Creole food if she has her way.
Knowles-Lawson buys gifts for her daughters — she is also mother to Solange Knowles and stepmother to actress Bianca Lawson — and doesn’t find it hard to pick out the perfect present. “I just figure [whatever I give] would be something she’ll love. All of my daughters. I have three. But I usually give them all the same thing,” she said.
The 64-year-old thinks her daughters do well selecting gifts for her, too. “My kids are really big on creating photo albums. That was the best Mother’s Day present I ever had,” she told Us. “They’ve given them to me on several occasions, and it’s the best.”
Last year, a very pregnant Beyoncé spent Mother’s Day with her mom, Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy, 6. The 36-year-old singer — who welcomed twins Rumi and Sir in June 2017 — and Blue Ivy wore matching Dolce & Gabbana dresses while visiting the Museum of Ice Cream in Los Angeles.
