Nicole Richie and Joel Madden welcomed their daughter Friday in L.A.
Though Richie has said they initially couldn't agree on a name, they settled on Harlow Winter Kate Madden.
What does it mean?
"There's a huge trend, especially among young Hollywood, to honor Classic Hollywood with names," Pam Satran, co-author of The Baby Name Bible, tells Usmagazine.com.
She cites Reese Withersoon and Ryan Phillippe and Jason Priestley and Naomi Lowde naming their daughters Ava (Ava Gardner); Greg Kinnear and wife Helen Labdon naming their daughter Audrey (Audrey Hepburn) and Weeds' Kevin Nealon and wife Susan Yeagley naming their son Gable (Clark Gable).
Harlow is the last name of famous 1930s screen siren Jean Harlow.
Patricia Arquette and husband Thomas Jane named their daughter Harlow; Joely Fisher also used Harlow as a middle name for her daughter True.
Adds Satran, "Harlow is the coolest glamour girl name."

lol...you guys are ridiculous, a name does not determine how you will turn out. nicole has changed her life around totally, babies tend to do that to ppl. i dont think it would be the least bit tragic if she turned out like her momma. I like the name, I'm not sure I'd name my own child that but I like it. It seems to be one of those names you either hate or you love.

Harlow is a cool name...I think it's a perfect girls name. It's different but pretty. Honestly it could be worse (Pilot Inspector?)
I'm not sure what Nicole Richie possibly being a slut has to do with a baby name but whatever helps you guys sleep at night.

When I first heard the baby's name I immediately thought of Jean Harlow and thought the name was beautiful especially along with the rest of her name Winter Kate Madden. At least it wasnt Apple or Hazel

I think that Harlow is a beautiful name being that I named my daughter that last April. Her name is Harlow Izabella and I don't see what is so bad about it. It took some traditional people some time to get used to it, but who wants to name their kids Mary or John? Names that are not heard everyday are not only unique, but also fun. If people make fun of this name then they are the ones that are messed up. It is not like a fruit name or something that unoriginal. And I did know that there was a town in England named that, but I also know many kids that are named after many other different towns around the states.

6:31--Jean Harlow was NOT a harlot, unless you have some insight into her personal life that has never been alleged before. She was married (no one has ever alleged that the marriage was anything but happy) and died of renal failure at age 26. Please be careful before you try to damage the reputations of others with lies.
