Katie Holmes raised eyebrows with her demure manner on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscar party.
Upon arriving at the famed afterparty, Cruise urged his bride to pose for a photograph alone.
"Take a shot of her," he told photographers.
But according to an onlooker, the 28-year-old actress refused to take a picture without him.
The actor then led Holmes around by the hand, pulling her back and forth while he mingled and she remained silent.
Cruise, 44, greeted a few photographers but didn’t introduce his wife, who said nothing and stood next to her husband, waiting for him to finish his conversations.
He later asked her again to pose for a picture alone, and she finally agreed.
“She looks at him for direction,” the witness tells Us.

I agree I have never had the interest in other celeb couples as I do them. The sparkle is not in her eyes as it used to be. The warning signs are there....low self esteem,only his friends around, only his family around, his religion...and they go every where she changed her ppl to his,although she has changed her publisist to her own again, I think she sees the light and is trying to keep from totally being controlled but this fairy tale will not end well, thats the interest for me always ppl go in with their eyes wide open and what ever happens happens she is young beautiful and being manipulated no matter how great they look. It is obvious to anyone who knows about relationships this one is not healthy....sad really. But typical hollywood !!!

2) Celebrities fascinate me because we the public probably know more about them than we know the real people in our lives, in a way. Celebrities, for all their fame and money, do have problems that someone in our lives may have at some point - divorce, infidelity, health/weight concerns, cosmetic issues, mental illness, family problems, illegitimate children, etc. So if we can actually learn something from them, we can be better off when dealing with it in our own circle of family and friends.
3) Regarding Katie & Tom....I have no doubt that in time, we shall learn the truth. What fascinates me is how mysterious they have made their relationship out to be from the get-go...they won't even talk about HOW they actually met. Yet less than one year from their first date, she gave birth, unmarried. If they weren't rich and famous, they'd be considered "white trash".
Then hiding Suri for months, when other celebrities - like Jolie & Pitt - proudly pose with their babies? TomKat's actions just set off alarms.
Even before that, rumors that Tom kept close tabs on Katie with a GPS tracker in her cell phone and Jessica, the Scientology minder, accompanying her wherever she went. And her only friends are HIS friends.
And it's always HIS family close by, he made a big deal of allowing her family to come out for a week to visit...and stay at a hotel nearby.
It's just ridiculous. And as for him being a great actor, he's never won an Academy Award. I'm sure that ticks him off.

People...why does it matter? Does what Ms. Holmes and Mr. Cruise do really affect your lives and your days that much? Why can't all of you people who have to put in your negative words just let them be? To be totally honest, Katie is behaving in the way that a wife should. She is being submissive, but not in a wierd way. There is NO evidence suggesting that he is controlling her. So rather than tear them down because you are dissatisfied with your own lives, why not try lending them an encouraging word. It sure would make their lives a lot easier, and it would probably make you feel a lot better to release some of that bitterness that all of you negative ladies seem to be holding on to.....food for thought, huh?
Here's my question: if Katie's "so obedient" and "so submissive" wouldn't it only take Tom ONE try to get her to take a picture by herself? That's the issue we're discussing right? the fact that she supposedly does everything he says? well, in that case, She wouldnt be denying his request to take a picture by herself. She would do EXACTLY as he says, right?
Katie's quite the stubborn cookie. True, their relationship is as perfect as people make it seem, but that's only because they fight a lot behind closed doors. and WHY do they fight? because Katie does exactly what SHE wants, not what he tells her to do.
Have not been to this website before and cannot believe that there are actually naive people out there who believe all the gossip and articles in the tabloids, unless of course they know all the clebrities first hand and are privy to their secrets.
But if I had friends like them, I would be very reluctant to even say what time I woke in the morning as they have such blabber-mouths. Do these same people not realise that celebrity magazines print contradictions from week to week. That there is a lot of guessings and speculation and gossip to spice up their articles so we will buy their magazines.
How sad that these envious people have such unexciting, uneventful, boring lives and feel the need to tear other people to pieces. When one points a finger at someone, there are 3 fingers pointing back at you. Perhaps they need to ask why their buttons are being pushed.
Regarding Tom Cruise, he is a family man and if jumping on the couch to declare his love for his then fiancee and declaring the use of non-drugs (which is not as weird as it seems with all the alternative methods of healing) I cannot understand how these same people cannot campaign as vigorously for those who commit crimes or whose lives are in total disarray.
Why no comments on Keith Urban who was said to behave so badly only a couple of months after his wedding, or Robbie Williams who is in rehab or poor Britney with her breakdown, the death of Anna Nicole, the wasting away of one of the Olsen twins, the mishaps of Paris and Nicole, etc etc IF one has to make a comment at all.
Why zone in on a man who probably does not know or care what these pathetic people are saying. It is amazing. You have got to wonder if they are being paid or something to make such inane statements. Perhaps it makes them feel important or noticed. At least the so-called reports and papparazzi are paid for their work so for them, the juicier and the nastier, the better.

It is said that what you feel so anti about something, it is because it quite often strikes a chord within you as you would otherwise not be able to relate to the situation or would feel distanced from whoever or whatever.
I too believe Tom is gay. Katie really needs to wake up and realize she is just a cover up. Anyone who will take money to marry and have a child with someone, even if he is Tom Cruise, seriously needs help. I thought it was interesting how Katie acted after the birth of her daughter. I think it was a wakeup call to Tom that depression is a very real thing. Can we all please just forget about Tom Cruise and move on with real men like Brad Pitt and Keith Urban!!!!
Tom is wonderfull man. He is one of the biggest actor. period in history. You will not find one movie that is not good.He live his life the way he want it. I love Tom and Kate, they look wonderfull and in love and happy. You can see , he is very protective when it comes to his childern and his wife. He accomplish a lot, now it time for him enjoy. No one can say one thing bad thing about him, except some of you talking, his personal life like you know him.

Katie got a deal, just like Nicole did. Mimi was much older than Tom and her own person (and her career went no where fast--although she did a good turn in an indie pic a few years ago with Jeff Bridges--can't recall name of movie now).
Yes, lots of money, designer clothes, and attention (and a nip/tuck here and there) would certainly add to his cache and the deal. Katie is young and naive enough to find that enthralling.
Travolta is known to pursue male extras on movie sets (fact) and to have "man cuddles" in his trailer. Scientology preaches out the gayness, just like they try to ignore the fact that mental illness is a very real problem that is often biological in nature (thank you, Brooke Shields).
This summer Katie and Brooke got awfully chummy. Why? Katie had post-partum depression, hands down. Brooke was called in to help. I guarantee. Shopping, a good diet, and probably some meds likely helped, too.
While not so common today, people have marriages of convenience all the time. It is too bad that Tom just can't be who he is.
Even Spencer Tracy, that big he-man often linked with Katherine Hepburn for decades, was a closet homosexual (or bisexual) in Hollywood. Kate, too. But look what the studios made them cultivate! You can't judge a couple based upon this one interaction. She could have just been in a mood. Why people are yammering on about something they know nothing about is beyond me. Frankly, it's none of any of our business.
Try this on for size: the tabs were filled with Katie being held prisoner etc. UNTIL Tom gave her an AMEX card with $500,000 credit on it and sent her to Fashion Week in Milan, Paris, etc. to be escorted by, of all people, Posh Spice...great role model - more materialistic than Paris Hilton if that's possible.
Then she's suddenly smiling! Of course, she's still a little girl who hasn't grown up yet.So, now she has the dream of all little girls: married to a movie star she had a crush on as a girl and now, free reign to go into any showroom, buy whatever she wants and be fawned over by Eurotrash. To make sure Katie's own taste wasn't involved, Posh was advisor and stylist in all things 'girly'.
Katy is looking directly at her minaudiere (tiny purse, probably $10,000) her jewelry and probably checking the tape holding up her Cinderella dress. Which is certainly gorgeous. The face is bowed to look and she is smiling to herself. And, you don't want anyone to get too close when you've had work done on your visage.
Look at some old pix. Her smile was crooked, her teeth were also and she's already said Tom hated her habit of sticking her tongue between her teeth when she smiled. Then there WAS the cute pug nose and rather large ears. Well, they couldn't be any flatter to her head,now. And, if the dental work's not done, she'd never open her mouth.
You have snaggle teeth waiting for crowns to be done.
The money, trips and pretend Posh friendship will probably distract her until she finds herself alone, surrounded by all these glorious 'things' and realizes she can get all dressed up but there's nowhere to go. She'll have no idea where her husband is and Posh will be busy as the mad little hornet she is, decorating her American digs. No need for Katie's advice: she lives in a mansion filled with stuff bought by someone else.
I used to like Cruise. Right up until A Few Good Men, I think. Since Risky Business, I HOPED that he was more than just a pretty face because he was hysterical in that. Then he got stuck in the pilot, race car driver mold until Jerry McGuire but the Kid and Renee Z. stole the spotlight and the good press. After that Mr. Cruise has made no movies with any co-stars. And, has to produce his own movies. In which there are stunts but no dialogue and thus no acting.
I began to dislike him when I realized how vain he is. For instance: he has no facial hair and thus, no sideburns. His hair has to be cut to make little hair strips in front of his ears and they don't stay in place. Then after reading he was 5'8, 5'7, 5'6 I finally read he's about 5'4. Which is another reason Katie has been drilled to stay behind Tom so when pictures are taken he looks larger and thus, taller as she becomes smaller in the background.
Notice that you NEVER see Tom standing still near anyone who is taller than he is (the world). Like a friend of some kind. It is why he is always shown in that long striding walk. Pix of Katie and Tom together always show her leaning on his shoulder or cocking her head to the side to hide the huge height difference.
But,in the picture above, for the first time EVER since TOM, she's wearing heels - at least 3". She's been reported as saying "I hate these flats Tom makes me wear". The reason the shoes are the ONLY closed toe shoes on the RED of any awards CARPET is because Katie has hammer toes and pre Tom, when wearing shoes that showed them, there were closeups and much laughing and criticism in the tabs about it. Bye bye, Jimmy Choo!
My dislike turned to disgust when I read that the SCIENCE folks decided he had to get married again to quash rumors so they "auditioned'starlets and made a proposal: stay married to him for 10 years, sign a gag order: for X amount of money and the guarantee of feature film parts. Scarlett J., Mischa B. and Keira K. said NO. Then they found Katie who actually WANTED to be married to him. THAT'S WHY TOM WAS JUMPING ON FURNITURE. Sure she was 'amazing' - amazingly naive and could be easily molded into whatever he or the church wanted.
Not marrying her before the baby was born was the last straw. He had to wait until ALL other celebrity weddings were over so he could be sure to top them and get all the publicity to be had. (Nicole's is just one example - and TC had to copy the 1,000 candles and castle ideas.
Mimi Rogers, his first wife and also a Scientologist - or was then, divorced him after just a couple of years and her career didn't take off. That's because there was no agreement, the Church was not aware of Tom's strange lack of interest in sex. Rogers told the papers that Tom would not have sex while in 'preparation' for his role in SLAPSHOT saying that is what athletes gave up before games.
Only he gave it up for the 8 or more months it took to complete the movie and by that time she'd had it.
WHOA! Something HAD TO BE DONE TO PUT OUT THAT FIRE. Well, Mimi never did another big feature after SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME.

PS, ever see Cruise in an ensemble cast? Of course not. He can't hold his own with real actors, doesn't have the emotional depth required to get into a character and no one wants him anyway. That's why he has to produce his own movies.
Katie is in a controlling relationship with Tom. She will un ravel just as Britney has. It is only a matter of time. Tom is wierd becasue he thinks he is perfect and there is no flaw in him, aaround him or in his life. His life will unccoil as well.
I do not know why some of you think that he is gay. Why some one with a lot of money will put himself in miserabl life ,just to pretend to be straight. Even if he is gay, he is wonderful guy, who raise his kids by himself well.

If I were that young and thrust into a situation where every tiny little thing I did or said was immediately dissected by thousands of people I didn't know, and could cause a loss of box-office sales for my husband, I would probably appear demure or robotic in public, too. Especially after the negative press that resulted from appearing estatic (albeit a bit overly estatic) and care-free in the early stages of the relationship.
I think she behaves beautifully for someone who is so maliciously gossiped about all the time. She is dignified, graceful, and gives very well-considered responses to the media when she probably would rather take an umbrella after them. Are we so used to people appearing out-of-control in society that we now call people "odd" or "brainwashed" for behaving themselves while in public?
People seem confused about the Cruises' behavior but seem to think it's perfectly normal to regurgitate every stray negative thought or opinion they've ever had about public figures they've never met. That's the real wackiness here.
p.s. Katie reminds me of Jackie O. She is a WOMAN. Not like some of the Hollywood trash or wanabees.

Anon 5:01 I tend to agree with your "theory" and I suspect many others do too. Plus it doesn't help any that Tom has turned into kind of a joke when it comes to his Scientology beliefs.
They look happy and healthy and beautiful. I have no doubt that there were countless pictures taken of them which cast them in a REAL light, but this one was no doubt chosen to fit the negative editorial slant of the article. Being that I am not interested in hating folks, especially for made up reasons, I actually want to hear REAL news about these people. I actually think they are interesting. But I don't see much truth fighting its way to the surface in this magazine.

Little Suri is in the custody of the Scientolgy director of Cruise Cult (opps I mean religion). His lover Mr...... of 29 years will be filing for custody of Suri as soon as the test results come back reveling if indeed Tom is the father of Suri, which Mrs. Holmes says he is not. Controled she is far beyond that. He is making sure she doesn't make a move that is why she did NOT want a picture she was affraid it was a trap and I bet she failed it when she finialy posed. Tom Crusie is a PIG, he is not a man, a horrid actor, and as a person a total waste of good air. Something that I have heard "the best part of him ran down his mothers a#*."
