Craig Blankenhorn / HBO
TV's biggest night is just around the corner, and as the stars are debating which dress and loaned diamond combo to go with, we're doing some prep-work of our own. For example, are we really ready for a Ryan Seacrest-hosted show? Will HBO and The Sopranos run away with the evening's top awards? And what category is primed for an upset?
Read on for our thoughts, and see how they hold up back here at Usmagazine.com after Sunday's ceremony!
Seacrest, Centerstage: Few people have more experience hosting a live show with big personalities than Ryan Seacrest, but on his regular American Idol gig, the performance pressure is decidedly elsewhere. And yet, the fearless TV and radio host told Extra today that his Emmys are going to "feel different" from the "first frame."
Big words that we hope to hold him to! We'll be watching out for Seacrest and his rumored song and dance number, wondering if his worst fear will come true, "that it goes well and he's asked to do it again."
Sayonara, Sopranos: Does anyone have a shot against HBO's crime family? Already lavished with years of critical praise and awards, it seems unlikely that the love-train would end on the series last season. With every major category covered, look for The Sopranos to be the night's big winner.
Surprise Party?: We're anticipating surprises in the supporting actor categories. Just take a look at supporting actress in a drama -- with three Grey's nominees (Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson) and two Sopranos stars (Lorraine Bracco and Aida Turturro) Brothers & Sisters' Rachel Griffiths (nominated twice before for Six Feet Under) could very well sneak in with a win.
Tell Us your Emmy predictions, and check back in to Usmagazine.com on Sunday for complete coverage on everything from the red carpet to the after parties.
