She tells <i>Seventeen</i> the shows "condition us to be mean"

America Ferrera isn't a fan of The Hills or Gossip Girl.

"Close, genuine female relationships are not what generally gets depicted in movies and TV shows," she says in the October issue of Seventeen.

"Like, if you're watching The Hills or 90210, all the backstabbing shapes the way we act – you go to school, and you think your job is to find a sworn enemy and be jealous of each other," she goes on.

Adds Ferrera, 24: "I mean, I love Blake [Lively, her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-star]; she’s a wonderful friend of mine, but shows like Gossip Girl kind of condition us to be mean."

The Ugly Betty star knows girls can be mean, she says, recalling how she has "worked with other girls before and it was pretty catty."

But working with Lively, Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies was "one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had with girl relationships," she says.

Before meeting them she says, "I was like, 'I'm just going to show up to work and be professional – not their best friend.'"

"But a couple of weeks into shooting, Amber and I started talking," Ferrera tells Seventeen. "She's a hippie, and I thought we had nothing in common – and now she's one of my closest friends!"

Hills' Lauren Conrad to Design Dress for Emmy Trophy Girls

She says her gown will reflect the "simple classic design" of her clothing collection — "with a black tie twist"

Lauren Conrad has landed her first major gig as a designer.

The Hills star, 22, will design a couture gown for the women handing out statuettes at the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards (airing September 21 on ABC).

"I am so excited that the Academy has asked me to design a dress for this year’s Emmy Awards," she said in a statement Wednesday. "I will be doing a red carpet look that still reflects the simple classic design of the Lauren Conrad Collection but with a black tie twist."

Added Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich: "We are very excited to have someone as talented as Lauren Conrad working with us to help make this a very memorable and exciting show."

Conrad recently denied reports that she is not involved in the creation of her clothing line.

It isn't Conrad's only television job.

Usmagazine.com has confirmed that Conrad will play herself on the second season finale of the ABC Family soap Greek, airing October 28.

Series creator Sean Smith tells Entertainment Weekly that Conrad — who will shoot her scene in early September — will appear as a spiritual adviser to Spencer Grammer's character, Casey.

"It's a dream sequence in which Casey and LC are best friends," Smith says. "Casey has a big decision she has to make, and she's like, 'LC, what do I do? Advise me!'"

Conrad is currently gearing up for the new season of The Hills, debuting August 18.

Her rep tells Us she will be back on a "recurring basis"

Despite reports that Samaire Armstrong would not be returning to ABC hit, Dirty Sexy Money full-time, the 26-year-old actress, who plays Juliet Darling, will be back on a recurring basis, her rep tells Usmagazine.com.

“The actress will therefore be free to pursue other projects in film and on television,” her rep said on Monday.

In early October 2007, Armstrong missed work because she was receiving treatment for "personal issues." At the time, her rep said: "Samaire Armstrong decided to enter an outpatient facility to deal with some personal issues in a therapeutic atmosphere and is doing very well. She continues to work on her show and will be completing her treatment in a matter of weeks."

The show, which airs on Wednesdays, follows the travails of the Darling family, a wealthy New York family who has a knack for getting into trouble. It stars Donald Sutherland, Peter Krause, Jill Clayburn and Seth Gable, who plays Armstrong’s twin. The drama returns in the fall after the writer’s strike truncated its season this year.

Armstrong has had roles in The OC and Entourage.

The pop singer began filming <i>How I Met Your Mother</i> today

Britney Spears began shooting her guest role on CBS' How I Met Your Mother this afternoon in Los Angeles.

With her hair in a ponytail, Spears — whose new video premieres online tonight — wore a blue shirt, black heels, glasses and a secretary-style skirt.

The singer's mother, Lynne, was spotted walking into her daughter's trailer around noon.

Show creator Craig Thomas revealed exclusively to Usmagazine.com that Spears will play a receptionist who falls for Ted (Josh Radnor) on the March 24 episode.

At a table read on Monday, Spears was "really laughing a lot," he said.

Thomas told Us Spears said yes to the gig a day after reading the script.
