Timbaland did his best to get Britney and Justin back together again.

Britney Spears and ex Justin Timberlake, together again? Hip-hop producer Timbaland told MTV News it could have happened. But Spears put the kibosh on the idea herself after Timbaland (who works closely with Timberlake) floated the possibility to her while she was working on her new album. Said Timbaland, “[She got] so big-headed and [was] like ‘Screw you, screw you, I don’t need nobody.”

According to the producer, the collaboration could have provided a big boost to Spears' sagging career, which took a big hit from her lackluster MTV VMA performance. "She has no comeback story. That's the problem. She has to have a team. She needs to come back with Justin doing records; [then we'd see headlines like] 'She went back to her ex and she's making smashes,'” said the producer.

Now, the only chance Spears has of making the dream duet happen is if she apologizes for her stubbornness. Said Timberland, "She should humble herself and make a phone call and say, 'I'm sorry…She needs to say, 'I was wrong,' and it'll definitely move forward. ... That's all she has to say."

Britney Spears has a new single!

The song, "Gimme More," has been leaked, and you can listen to it here on PerezHilton.com. With Spears boldly declaring "It's Britney, bitch" as the dance track opens, the song represents a clear departure from the emotional and undermixed ballad that hit the internet on August 23.

A friend of Spears’ tells Usmagazine.com that “Gimme More” is a set-up single designed to set the tone for her album, and fans can expect to see a video for the song early next week. The source adds, “The song is dope. It is amazing, a fast dance song and people will love it. But don't judge the whole album by the song...it is just a first glimpse but the whole album and the stuff on it surpasses it. This album is amazing and has something for everyone. It will blow people away and people won't question that she is back."

On the subject of Spears’ current custody battle with ex Kevin Federline, her friend tells Us, "It is not pretty but they are working it out. Britney has to do what she has to do to defend herself. Britney's lawyers are taking care of everything they need to do to fight back their case. They are good lawyers and know what they are doing."

We don’t know about you, but we’d like to forget the lawyers for a little while and just dance!

The Britney Spears comeback tour is on, despite getting off to a slow start.

Brit's fans' hopes were crushed last Wednesday when an alleged show at L.A. burlesque club Forty Deuce was revealed to be merely a rehearsal. Rumors are now circulating that she will back out of planned shows this week at three California House of Blues locations.

But a source tells Usmagazine.com that she will be performing, just not for long. "Britney's shows at the House of Blues are just a warmup," says the source. "They are just to get her feet wet."

And 25-year-old Brit will be doing it on her own, which means you shouldn’t expect snakes, waterfalls, or Jon Voight. There will be dancing, and it will be sexy, but it’ll be choreographed by Brit herself. The source explains, "Britney has much bigger things in the works...it's just a small set to get her out there again."

Britney Spears dropped by North Hollywood’s Millennium Dance Complex on April 23, where she torches the calories (up to 1,500 an hour) with jazz and hip-hop dance classes.

“Her body was in phenomenal shape,” instructor Darrien Henning tells of a recent visit.

As for her diet, the 25-year-old mother of two has swapped the Cheetos for healthy sushi and eats six mini-meals a day.

“I think she’s excited to get where she wants to be,” the singer’s trainer Manny Bujold says of his new client.

A staffer at L.A.’s Epitome salon, where Spears goes tanning, has an idea where that might be: “I heard her ssay she wants to look good in a bikini.”
