Truth: when it comes to beauty, Drew Barrymore is the realest celebrity on the internet. That, of course, comes as no surprise, because Barrymore is famously the founder of Flower Beauty. But the best part about her beauty candor is that the multi-hyphenate isn’t afraid to get real about her mistakes — in fact she talks about them openly on Instagram.
Barrymore has been posting up a storm on her feed in celebration of her Flower Beauty Retreat with some of the biggest influencers in the biz, like Nikkie de Jagger and Manny Guttierez, posting snapshots and mini candid video tutorials with the makeup pros. And in one such video, Drew gets real with Nikkie about one of her big beauty mistakes — she was heating her eyelash curler the wrong way.
The beauty magnate explains that when she learned that heating your curler creates a longer lasting bend in the eyelashes and helps open the eye even more. But here’s the catch: she held her curler under a hot blast from her blow dryer for almost 20-30 seconds. So when she went to enhance her peepers, she burnt herself.
While regaling this beauty mishap to Nikkie, the Youtuber employs the use of a lighter to heat an eyelash curler, but only holds it up to the flame for two seconds and lets it cool before letting Drew use it.
In yet another video, Drew sits with Manny while getting her makeup done and she talks about how labels on their Full Face palettes are only suggestions. Instead of abiding by strict beauty rules, Drew suggests using products how you intuitively want to. For example, she likes to use the dark eyeshadow color in the aforementioned palette as a contour shade for her face.
