House of Cards

Network: Netflix

Based on Michael Dobbs’ 1989 novel of the same name and the 1990 BBC series adaptation, House of Cards premiered on Netflix in 2013 and aired until 2018.

Set in Washington, D.C., House of Cards follows Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), a power-hungry Democratic congressman and House Majority Whip. Aided by his equally ambitious wife, Claire (Robin Wright), Frank initiates an elaborate plan to attain more power.

Notable characters include Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), Remy Danton (Mahershala Ali), Tom Hammerschmidt (Boris McGiver), Edward Meechum (Nathan Darrow), Cathay Durant (Jayne Atkinson), Jackie Sharp (Molly Parker), Seth Grayson (Derek Cecil), Thomas Yates (Paul Sparks) and Viktor Petrov (Lars Mikkelsen).

In 2017, Netflix cut ties with Spacey as he faced multiple misconduct and assault accusations, which he denied. The series launched its sixth and final season with Wright as the lead.

Wright and Spacey earned a Golden Globe Award for their performances in 2014 and 2015, respectively. The series received seven Emmy Awards before its finale.
