TOP STORY: Project Runway Recap: Going to the Mat
Thursday February 7, 2008

With only six contestants remaining, making it to Fashion Week is at the forefront of everyone's mind on the February 6 episode of Project Runway. "There's so much at stake!" Sweet P, this season's Captain Obvious, exclaims to the camera before being whisked away by Tim Gunn to receive the next assignment.

Outside the runway room, the designers hear grunting and other strange noises coming from inside. No, it's not Michael Kors and Nina Garcia fighting over a pair of Jimmy Choos - it's the women of the WWE (that's World Wrestling Entertainment), going at it on the mat. The contestants must design an outfit that the "divas" (as Gunn calls them) can wear while wrestling.

Forget Mood fabric store; this challenge calls for Spandex House, where Christian gets some leather and lace and Jillian expresses some anxiety about her model: "If I design the wrong thing, she might body-slam me!"

Back in the studio, the designers get to work: Sweet P whips up a glittery bra and boy shorts combo with feathery robe ("It's like Eva Gabor in Green Acres," Gunn says); Chris works his magic with a green leopard print; Jillian does a boyish blue getup; Rami whips up a simple hot pink number; Ricky, inexplicably, makes an orange bathing suit with cape; and Christian comes up with some "fierce" assless chaps.

At the judging, Kors is agog, saying, "I feel like the Pope at a sex club," as he eyes the WWE women. In the end, he and the other judges deemed Chris the winner, while Ricky's combo (Kors dubbed it a "disco haircutting smock") was the losing look. We braced ourselves for the infamous Ricky waterworks, but they never came. He was probably too scared his model would kick his ass.
