Pax Thien Jolie's biological mother is reportedly an unmarried, long-time heroin addict who gave up her baby for adoption two days after he was born, according to the boy's grandparents.

Pham Thu Dung, 29, gave birth to Pax in 2003 and the child ended up in the care of the Tam Binh Orphanage, where he was recently adopted by Angelina Jolie.

"Our daughter is a heroin addict and she is a bag of trouble," Chien, Pax's 55 year-old grandpa, tells News of the World. "Her life has been ruled by drugs since she was 16."

He said: "She disappears for months on end. Then just when you think you will never see her again, she's back. But we only ever see her when she wants money."

The grandfather told News of the World that Pax's mother was actually at their house when orphanage officials arrived to inform them of the adoption.

"She did not say a word and showed absolutely no emotion," he said. "She listened hard when the director told us her boy was going to have a good life, and that he was lucky he was going to live with this rich American woman."

Chien continued: "We did not know then that Angelina Jolie was the rich American who wanted to adopt our grandson."

He predicted that his daughter may seek the movie star out for financial support or to try to reclaim her child.

"When she finds out that a rich movie star has adopted her baby, she will go after Angelina Jolie for money and make trouble for her. She may even try to take the child back."

But according to Nguyen Van Trung, the director of the Tam Binh Orphanage, even if these claims turn out to be true, it would be impossible for Pax's biological mother to take back custody of her child.

Shortly after the baby arrived, the orphanage tried to find his relatives through a newspaper ad, but there was no answer within 30 days. Therefore, Pax was legally considered an orphan for the last three years.

"Not mentioning that Sang’s mother didn’t claim her baby when the orphanage advertised in newspapers, the fact that she abandoned her child is enough to hold her accountable before laws, let alone demand her child back!” Trung told a Vietnamese newspaper.

Trung added that after Jolie signed the paper with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Justice, Pax officially became her child.

"If, in the future, Sang's biological mother comes to the orphanage, we will only provide her with such information as that Sang has been adopted, and where and how he lives," the orphanage director said. "As for demanding Sang back, it is absolutely impossible."
