Britney Spears has gotten a lot of flack for flashing her bare nether regions for the cameras last week, but she’s not the only commando queen in Hollywood. Paris Hilton, 25, was flaunting her very comprehensive bikini wax back in August 2002. As Amy Poehler asked recently on SNL, ladies, what’s with all the deforestation going on down there? Us talked to Paris’ waxer -- Cindy Barshop, owner of NYC's Completely Bare Salon -- to try to get to the bottom of this overexposed trend.
Us: So what is the hot trend in bikini waxing now?
CB: The Brazilian bikini wax was hot about 5 years ago, but for the past 3 years, the completely bare has been the big celeb trend in bikini waxes.
Us: What’s the difference between a Brazilian wax and a completely bare?
CB: Completely bare takes everything off. The Brazilian usually leaves a square and oblong shaped patch of hair.
Us: So I know you’ve heard about Britney flashing her naked hair-free private parts to the photographers. Why do you think people are moving towards a completely bare wax?
CB: I feel that if you do a completely bare wax, you feel cleaner, more comfortable and more groomed…it seems a little sexier.
Us: So why do you think celebrities are skipping the underwear and going commando?
CB: I think that with the completely bare waxing, they just feel comfortable enough with their bodies that they can skip the underwear. And oops if they do happen to flash someone, it’s not as embarrassing because the area is groomed.
Who are the other repeat offenders? Check out the rest of Hollywood’s commando queens in the new issue of Us Weekly, on newsstands this week.
Talk to Us: Are you a fan of the completely bare look?

I personally prefer the bare look. And feel. I've been shaving everything from the armpits down since I was about 15. I'm 28. This "trend" is nothing new to me. I wasn't sure about trying it, but my then-boyfriend wanted me to try it, so I did. The only times it has ever been able to grow back since then were the three times when I was big and pregnant and couldn't reach. :0) I think it looks neater and better-groomed, in my opinion. In fact, I'm SO used to it that if I see a picture of a "natural" naked woman, I am always mildly surprised at first, as if I forgot there is SUPPOSED to be that much hair down there. It is a personal preference, of course, and I have heard the pedophile thing but I really don't think that is the reason men like it. I asked my then-boyfriend at the time and my husband both why they like it bald and their answers were very simple. They both said, "Because I can see it better." That sounds about right, considering men are more stimulated visually than any other way.
First off, I have had the Brazilian and it is not what it is cracked up to be. I felt wet all of the time, my pee went everywhere when I went to the bathroom, air kept going in and out causing unpleasant noises, it itched half the time, so men it might look good but when you start hearing your woman fart/quief every time she sits down and gets up, it loses it's appeal! The hair really does still have a function, Slick, no matter where we are in evolution
Wasn't the Brazilian invented by the person who did Hitler's moustach?
I'd love to get into that!!
I happen to love the natural look. I love a totally natural woman. I find it hard to find a natural woman now-a-days. Those brazillan waxes and bald beavers gross me out. wouldn't even want to touch one. YUCK. Like the guy earlier said," keep the shaving to the armpits and legs. I love to see the pubic har spilling from the panties and i also love the tummy hair. When I spot a woman with these I am quick to pursue her. Just my opinion. A natural woman will feel like the prettiest women in the world if she was with me. Nothign wrong with keeking your natural pubic hair women. To me the natural woman are beautiful!
"Fact remains girls, the recent trend of shaving is a thing that came out of PORNOGRAPHY. Do the research people - it's true."
One would have to think that only an imbecile would urge others to do the research when they, themselves, hadn't. Removing bodily hair, even in the pubic region, has been around for millennia, long before pornography.
Ancient Egyptians, both men and women removed head and bodily hair. This was more likely for style reasons than health or hygiene.
Across the Far Eastern world, hair removal of all sorts has long been practiced.
Even as recently as 1096 A.D., many soldiers returning from the crusades in Jerusalem had acquired a penchant for hairless female genitalia. Historical data supports that the women of the time did indeed give it a try, but also bought merkins - pubic wigs - to hide this fact. Much like today, yes? Society putting pressure on women to make their bodies conform to specific norms. Treating those who chose to remove their own bodily hair as heathens or worse. Terrible, isn't it?
To requote the anonymous twit I first mimicked "It's true. Look it up."
Also, for the thoughtful consideration of same said twit, who wrote "And to the guys who find women with pubic hair to be "disgusting" (I hope you don’t mind the corrected spelling) and wouldn't touch them - maybe you need to rethink your sexuality.", thanks for the totalitarian viewpoint. People who don't agree with your take on sexuality need to rethink theirs? Way to go, Hitler!
As far as your views on the authenticity or accuracy of calling something a Brazilian wax, I must wonder... Do you put the same worry into Philly Cheese steaks, New York Cheesecake or French Fries? The Brazilian wax can clearly trace its name origins to the beaches of Brazil, where tiny swimsuits made the world at large aware of the phenomenon. Did pubic hair removal start in Brazil? I'd contradict myself if I said yes. It's just the place that made a particular type of pubic hair removal popular. Do all Brazilian women sport crotches waxed bald? No more than all Greeks wear Grecian formula.
Fool.
Hello people,
The question is "Are you a fan of the bare look?” not "Please rant about the morals, or lack thereof, of young celebrities."
I AM a fan of the bare look.
For the person who claimed pubic hair was a necessary, protective growth of the body - yes, it WAS, about 100,000 years ago, when the species was just getting a leg up on the rest of the animal kingdom. Deciding to trim ones pubes is no more an issue than shaving ones legs, armpits and/or scalp. Ever get a hair cut? OMG! That hair is there to prevent the loss of body warmth! Thank god the hat and indoor heating are here to save the human race.
For all the idiots who claim those who prefer this look are in any manner whatsoever lusting after underage girls, please do the following -
NEVER modify your body in any fashion. No hair cuts, leg or armpit shaving (or that mustache you don't want to admit you have, ladies). All these things are secondary sex characteristics - JUST LIKE PUBES. Any alteration of the natural state must be evil and motivated by pedophiliac tendencies. Better not take that gray out of your hair either. Or ask your men folk to shave their faces, trim their ear or nose hair.
And just think about this, you who make the child molester accusations - most men don't get to see the goods right off the bat. We aren't choosing our partners based on their lack off pubic hair. We show interest in them because they are WOMEN. Smooth bits are a side benefit.
Finally, believe it or not, some women actually prefer it on their own. My wife initially reacted in much the same manner of many negatives expressed here. But now that she's given it a try, she'll never go back to natural.
