On October 30, a rep for Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon released a statement announcing the couple’s separation. What wasn’t mentioned: The fact that Phillippe, 32, has recently grown close to Abbie Cornish, 24, his Australian costar in the indie film Stop Loss; according to an insider, during a shoot in August, Texas, from August to late October, the two had a fling. (“It’s not true,” Cornish’s rep tells Us. “They are costars and that is it.” Reps for Phillippe and Witherspoon had no comment.)
For a married man with two children (Ava, 7, and Deacon, 3), Phillippe was rather open about their affair. On October 10, local Lauren Scott witnessed Phillippe and a blonde, who fit Cornish’s description, kissing at sushi restaurant Kenichi. “I was pretty shocked that he would blatantly cheat on Reese in public,” Scott tells Us.
But Witherspoon and Phillippe’s union remained intact – until Witherspoon, 30, was alerted to pictures of Phillippe with Cornish, says a source. When she confronted him about the relationship, “Ryan admitted it was true and said, ‘We just need to end this.’ Reese literally had no choice.”
Where did things go wrong for the couple? What happened between Phillippe and a woman he met in Toronto while filming a movie last January? Did Reese know about Ryan’s wandering eye? Obviously Reese. She's a nice woman and great with her kids. She earns big bucks because she's really talented in acting unlike Ryan. It's really heartbreaking to know that they don't have a prenup, Ryan will be getting those hard earn money from Reese just like that. God bless Reese. Ryan doesn't deserve her, the kids and definitely her money.

who ever knows why two people split...the public only gets the side of the story that their press people want you to see...if it takes two to make it, it takes two to break it...at NO time is the other person completely the victim...somewhere along the way BOTH people contributed to it ending...and, who is to say that ALL marriages/relationships are supposed to last forever after...it's a fairy tale wish that has no weight in a real world...sometimes it's just time for one or the other to move on...

Ok..first of all, its unfortunate that these two had to split, i mean, i was a huge fan of them; however, i don't believe at all that Ryan would cheat on Reese, and if it is true, then thats sad, but i won't put all the blame on Ryan because of it. Why? because magazines are filled with the most bull crap in the entire world! i mean, in every interview with any celebrity that I've ever seen, they all claim that magazines never tell the truth and I think thats how it is with this story as well. Ryan and Reese have their own reason for it and because these magazine writers can't figure it out, they come up with the biggest "story" they can think of. Even if Ryan did cheat on Reese, that's none of our business anyways and if he did, that doesn't make him a better or worst actor. He'll have to deal with his decision sooner or later, but it's terrible that so many are judging his acting career based on something that could very well be a lie.

Reese is such a wonderful person and this is not going to bring her down, she will handle this with class. Ryan is just pissed because he knows that Reese can get any movie she wants and he is stuck with Indie films because he cannot act!!!

Ive always been a fan of Ryan's but for him to do that to Reese is terrible, i never put him for the type of bloke to do that to her, i thought he genuinly loved her! They had a real strong relationship and marriage, i just want to know what went wrong? Did he cheat cos he wernt happy.. i just dont know!
Reese if your reading thing, keep strong.. you've been strong so far, you can still do it! U still have the support and love from Ava and Deavon.

Reese and Ryan were one of the most beautiful couples and I think everyone wanted them to last. I am sure there is a lot going on to lead up to the cheating but either way cheating is a cowards way out. What an ass!!!
I hope everything that Reese wants she gets. She will end up on her feet!

America's divorce rate in general is out of hand. But adultry does free you from the bonds of marriage. No one cares about what the bible says anymore. They don't want to hear it unless it pleases them. We can't just pick which parts we want to belive and choose not to belive the parts we don't agree with. The bottom line is you belive it all or none at all. Marriage is a special commitment that takes work no matter who you are. I hate to see marriages split especially when kids are involved. But Hollywood advertises adultry like it is cool. And our young kids are growing up watching Victoria secret girls prance around in their underware at any time of the day. Our movies promote ungodly behavior. If we would clean up our entertainment maybe our homes would follow. People always want to be and do like Hollywood. I disagree with that but that is the way it is. We are lead by example and for some crazy reason we look to Hollywood for our examples.

Ryan SUCKS. I will NEVER go to one of his movies ever again, or to anything that includes that little tramp Abby Cornish-hen, either. I am so sick of these cheating men in Hollywood. This is so sad.... They seemed like a couple that would of last forever.... But we don't know how they really were behind closed doors... Marriage is not easy and it takes two to make it work... And yes we are all human and we are not perfect but there is a limit and cheating is hard to forgive.... Good luck Reese and hope all works well for their kids....

I can't believe it! He is such a jackass! Put it this way, I'm a straight female. But I wouldn't be if Reese gave me some attention! He is such an idiot, that it makes me wonder if all men are like that.I know that there are good men out there, so come out yelling for Reese!Or, better yet, mabey there is more to thiis than it seems to be, mabey there are two sides to this story. But, right now, I'm on her side!The public can be so judmental, even if you are not in showbusiness. I worry about their kids, and how this would effect them, because divorce is tough on children(been there,done that). I just hope that the think it out before they say, or do, somehting that they may regret.

OMG!they're really ending it! I can't believe that Ryan cheated on Reese and that all along she's been trying so hard to keep their marriage work.I didnt even know that she's having a hard time dealing about Ryan's infidelity. She's just too good in hiding. I hope she can get thru this hard and painful experience. Although I adore Ryan, but if this speculations is true, I think Reese deserves someone else.

I was trully saddened by the news....I believe that Reese tried with all her might to be a good mom and wife......you never heard about her stepping out on Phillipe or saying anything negative...her face would literally beam whenever she talked about her family.
My heart goes out to her...I actually felt out of all the couples that they would last....if Will Smith and Jada ever break up that its for me.

When are celebrities going to learn that marriage is hard and takes work???? If they dedicated as much time and energy to making a relationship work as they do a blockbuster movie there would probably be less Hollywood divorces.
The only REAL victims are the children. If the demise of the marriage DID indeed involve a third party then shame on Ryan for not having the balls enough to leave first. I have no respect for a person who thinks infidelity is a good way out of an unhappy marriage. If a third party is the case then TEAM REESE!!!!!

I think that it is awful any time a couple with children are separating due to a third party. As devoted parents they should realize that once that child enters your life any selfish behavior on your part should be over. They did not ask to be born into this , and yet it is them who will suffer in the long run. I do not condone staying together for the children either , for they are the first to know when things aren't right. I only hope for this family that they will be able to go through this difficult time as any normal couple without the media hounding them.
