Lorenzo Borghese, the latest meat puppet being fought over by 25 single ladies on the new season of The Bachelor, is turning out to be less charming prince and more average Joe (making it the most true-to-life reality show in recent history).
Though 34-year-old “Italian prince” Lorenzo Borghese calls Rome his “second home,” a member of the Borghese family tells Radar that Lorenzo never even visited the city before signing on for The Bachelor.
Also being called into question is where Borghese is really from. Though ABC's Web site claims he was born in Milan and raised in Connecticut, his parents, Princess Amanda Borghese and Prince Francesco Borghese, have lived in Short Hills, New Jersey, since 1979, and his permanent addresses prior to 2001 all list him as a resident of the Garden State.
A source tells Radar that after discovering that Borghese speaks only "menu Italian," the show’s producers enrolled Borghese in an intensive Italian language course before filming began. (A spokesman for ABC denies knowledge of the course.)
The title is real, though it doesn't translate into a castle and throne (titles haven't even been recognized in Italy since 1947).
The Borghese family is said to be deeply embarrassed by Lorenzo's participation in the show, though his recent foray into the Borghese Cosmetics line hardly bolstered his pedigree. Lorenzo’s contribution to the family business? A line of doggie grooming products called Royal Treatment Pet Care, including the Stinky-B-Gone odor fighting kit, the Pumpkin Patch spritz, and the After Bath Pet Robe.
The latest incarnation of The Bachelor premiered last night.

The Bachelor is from Short Hills, N.J. I am from there as well, and though I didn't know Lorenzo (I am 11 years older) my parents are very good friends of his and have been for years. The Borghese's are a very influential italian family and travel to Italy regularly. I am surprised that he would choose a reality TV show to find his bride. I have to think that he is entertaining himself, and me for that matter!
I grew up with Lorenzo and was the same year with him in school until 8th grade. Yes, he grew up in Short Hills. If US really wanted a story, interview some of us who knew him then. Lorenzo lived a life that was far from being royal, and until last week, I didn't even know he had prince in his name. What I remember best about Lorenzo is that he was always being devious and mischievous. My hunch is he still has a lot of that in him, and he's laughing all the way to the bank with this princely image. What a joke. Way to pull the wool over their eyes Lorenzo!!
He is really a prince (borghese is one of the most important aristocrat family in Italy). One of his cousins is one of the few people who can visit pope's private room... The fact is that he never lived in Italy and has no knowledge of our culture. i'd be very glad if he retired from the show (please fake and stupid prince let ur ancestors rest in peace!!!)
There is something wrong with a woman, or a man, who thinks they can actually find real love on a show...and consider this, he is 34, and most of those girls are around 22. When will men ever learn that if they go for a woman based on looks, it won't last? this show seems to have more success when it's the women who are doing the choosing, not the men. the women seem to choose men of substance, then men just seem to go for the bimbos usually, though I do have to say the last one did not, but they still didn't last...andrew firestone made a very good choice, but sadly, in the end, even he and jen didn't make it...too bad, they really were adorable together.
Humm and one more thing... an Italian prince form New Jersey... let me take a minute to laugh HAHAHAHAHA. Sorry guys i'm extremely frustrated this mornin'
I have never watched this show in my life... ever and it's been running how long? 7 years? I just don't know what's so attractive on those smuck that all of those stupid bimbos have to ridicule (s'cuse my french hope it's a word haha)themselves and throw themselves on those guys like love sick puppies... it's degrading for the female kind. I never understood that concept... and frankly i think it's crap!
This show is so ridiculously bad! Yeah, he's such a prince, that I've never even heard of him and he lives in Jersey and probably drives a Dodge Stratus. Are you kidding me? And some of those girls seem so desperate - crying after being eliminated a DAY later! And who in their right mind would sell their car to meet THAT guy? WHY?!
He's cute, but I never bought the prince thing.
Haaaaa Haaaa hahahaha.... one of my girls from high school just sent me this article with a very odd message attached saying "i'm sure you could leave some heavy messages" hahahaaaaa... i dated this guy in high school!! i lived in livingston, the next town over, and he was a joke! in his defense though, who isn't a joke in high school- i mean, we were 16, but i don't have fond memories of him. wow.. ::::still laughing::: what a small world.
Mish, Yes Lisa made the cut. When she got the rose and the earrings, she was guaranteed in for the night.
I agree, he was dorky. Where was the tall, dark, handsome Italian MAN??! There was nothing Italian - or Prince qualities - about him. And most of the ladies were just UGLY and snotty! I think Sadie is the cutest; she was adorable.
I didn't like him at all...I was very disappointed. He is a TOTAL dork. He had NOTHING interesting to say, and like the previous post, he didn't seem very articulate. Not for a "Prince" anyway!! "Prince", my you-know-what!!
Uh, maybe he's a Jersey guy pretending to be a prince. Oh, well.....
this guy is a real tool bag
He looks really good for me.......MY God I think he GAY
Erin knows whats up. My first impression exactly. He is an embarassment to the Italian Culture. PATHETIC FAKE
I tried to stay awake and watch the rose ceremony, can anyone tell me if the girl he gave the first rose and earrings to made the final cut?
I agree some of the girls he picked were nasty especially the blonde in the white dress. She was way to forward.
From what I gather, The Bachelor is intended to help single, attractive individuals to meet others that appear to have something in common with them. Who CARES if Lorenzo is an "active" prince ? ! He has the sweetest face and disposition, just like alot of my Italian brothers and cousins! And they aren't fluent in Italian, either. I hope Lorenzo screens out the gold-diggers, and most appear to be just that! Talking about THEIR destiny, THEIR dreams of being a princess........puh-lease! What happened to really just being yourself and looking for initial chemistry and praying for something that may last longer? Most of you sound ticked off that he didn't come through as a womanizer!
Give the guy a break already.
This guy is a real joke. Some of the girls he picked to stay were very slutty and unattractive. All one of the girls that he kept did was shake her ass at him and he liked it so he kept her. What a loser, if you want girls that just shake their butts, go see GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS in Vegas and don't ruin what choices we have on tv.
I think that he is fine as hell and who really cares if he is a prince or a frog it's freakin reality TV!!! He seems like my type of guy I should of went on there to claim my prince!!!
I agree with Erin, the Bachelor was awful! For him to be a "prince" and to go to Italy and not being able to speak Italian is a disgrace!! It is emabarassing, for him not to have picked the Italian girl that sold her car to be there, shows that he is so NOT ITALIAN!!
Now that Tony Parker and Eva Longoria broke up, I think that Tony should be the next bachelor. Just imagine how the girls would act for a sports star - it would be so funny. Let the cat fights begin.
Definitely from NJ, i used to hang out with him and some friends in high school. Nice guy all around but not sure if the "prince" thing is really appropriate. Think ABC was just looking for a new angle.
This Bachelor is awful! He is not even an italian, and being an italian myself, a disgrace to the Italian culture. He doesn't even act Italian-American- no knowledge of Italian language or culture- he greeted the Italian women on the show last night with a kiss on the hand! Who does that!? Anybody who has ever been to Europe, much less Roma, knows that a polite greeting is a double kiss- one on each cheek! He isn't even attractive- he has terrible conversation skills and all of the initial greetings when the girls got out of limo were so awkward! He seems like such a wimp and I think this was an absolutely terrible choice of a Bachelor. He is nothing but a fake Italian who uses his ancestral history as some personal triumph of his own- pathetic!
I am surprised by the headline, because I thought he was amazing. Sure, he was not some stuck up Italian acting like royalty. However, that is what genuine class is all about! He seemed compassionate and down to earth--traits he probably gained over the years to dampen people's natural propensity towards jealousy. I think he is (MOST DEFINITELY) the most desirable bachelor ever!
I did cringe everytime the girls mentioned becoming "princesses" (before they had even met him). Also, discussing how this was their "destiny"...grow up! How do you even know you guys are compatible? It made me kind of sad for him, in a way. It must be difficult to weed through the shallow girls looking for nothing more than to "have the Borghese name" or "become royalty."
Granted, I dated a A.A. Busch IV, but the family name and legacy was only a bonus. What I truly adored about him was our compatibility--AND his down to earth nature!!!!
A "prince" who makes you forget his royal legacy and feel comfortable? That is truly royal behavior, in my opinion.
