Katie Holmes is returning to her small screen roots with a guest-starring role on one episode of Eli Stone this fall.
"She was fabulous at the table read. There's some singing and dancing that she does – its exquisite," ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson said at the Television Critics Association in Beverly Hills Wednesday.
The executive producer of the ABC show, Greg Berlanti, also worked on Dawson's Creek, which made Holmes a star in the late '90s.

"It's a great reunion for Katie and Greg Berlanti," said McPherson. "He and Katie wanted to get together."
Berlanti explained that Holmes will play an attorney but she won't be practicing law in the episdoe.
"I begged her" to appear on the show," Berlanti said. "And she said, 'I'd love to.'"
Holmes has been shooting her scenes in L.A. The show returns October 14.
Eli Stone star Johnny Lee Miller revealed that Holmes has been working "extremely hard.
"We did 17 hours yesterday, most of her time was spent dancing," Miller said. "She was fantastic. A really really great person."
Holmes, 29, has been staying in NYC rehearsing for her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller's All My Sons. The play premieres October 16 and the actress will co-star in the production for 16 weeks.
"Katie's not a celebrity type," the play's producer Eric Falkenstein has said. "She's done brilliant work in films like Pieces of April and The Ice Storm."

Holmes is the latest celeb to sign-on for a fall guest role: Nicole Richie will appear on Chuck, Courteney Cox on Scrubs, Mary-Kate Olsen on Samantha Who? and Mary Tyler Moore on Lipstick Jungle.
Entertainment Weekly first reported Holmes' Eli Stone role.

Why does US Magazine constantly use this picture of Katie Holmes? Is it that they couldn't find a better one or is it that they want their readers to think and say negative things about her. I think she looks cute but there are a million better pictures they could post when they write about her and I'm sure the decision is intentional.

I actually like Katie's new shorter 'do'. She looks more mature..not like a little girl. I do wish someone would clue them in to the dangers of letting Suri constantly use a bottle at her age though. She's going to ruin her teeth. Even baby teeth are important. And please..put the child down and let her walk occasionally!

I have no idea if Suri actually got much taller or just much skinnier. If you get noticably skinnier, sometimes it makes you look taller.
IMO, she looks like she really thinned out. Maybe, with that bottle always around, she doesn't eat as much solid foods as she should.
I have no idea who is her real father, I just know that she doesn't look anything like Tom, imo.

I agree with most of you... not only does Suri need to "walk away" from the bottle but they need to put the girl down and let her walk period! She is very often pictured with no shoes on (which is fine sometimes, I know kids don't always want to put on their shoes) and being carried! She is what, 2 or 3 years old? She needs to walk like a "big girl"! Stop treating her like a baby! She isn't one anymore!

Katie Holmes was a fresh faced, bright eyed, gorgeous young woman who, now, despite still being very pretty, has seemingly aged 15 years in just a few short years and has completely lost that youthful glow. She appears obsessed with designer clothing, shopping and turning herself into some sort of fashion icon, has not given an open, heartfelt interview about anything since meeting Tom Cruise (without Scientology minders in the room, that is, or waiting back in the green room), is never seen alone in public in the company of her siblings or parents, not to mention former friends that were dumped by her upon her meeting Tom Cruise. This is what happens when someone is willing to completely give themself over to someone else and adopt their belief systems, their family, their whole lifestyle and give up absolutely everything that was unique about yourself. She may not be aware of it consciously, but the stress of it all shows in her face and the complete change in her appearance. I wonder how graciously Tom would behave if his daughter came to him in the future, told him she's in love and getting married, and she's converting to the religion of her fiance and his family and leaving Scientology behind completely. I doubt as graciously as the Holmes family has behaved. How heartbreaking for them.

I like Katie (at least the Katie from the pre-Cruise days), and I love "Eli Stone." I'm not sure this series is the best fit for a guest star role for her, but it's just one episode. The pic of her above is so sad. Her smile doesn't quite reach her eyes.

12:45 I agree with you. She seems so lifeless now. It's sad... I wish she had taken the Batman role, she was so good in the other one. I don't know why she didn't, whether she is trying to be more proper for Tom or it is something else, she just seems so different now. I liked the old fun and upbeat Katie better than the stiff, fashionista Katie. Just my opinion...

I look at recent photos of her, and I get so sad. She's lost the spark. When she got her beauty, wavy hair cut, it almost took away her sparkle. I honestly miss the old Katie Holmes.
