Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes opened the doors of their new Beverly Hills mansion for an A-list housewarming party Saturday night.
The couple's celebrity friends Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez, Brooke Shields, Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria Parker and Kyra Sedgwick were among the guests.
Holmes' extended family – including her parents – came in from Ohio for the event. Children Isabella, 15, Connor, 13, and Suri, 2, were not there.
Cruise and Holmes purchased the 1.3-acre $35 million estate last summer and spent a year on renovations.
Guests – mostly in black cocktail attire – began arriving around 9 p.m. They were driven up the long driveway to a large fountain by a valet service.
The party was both indoors and outdoors. Over 50 staff members from Wolfgang Puck catered the event, which ended around 1 a.m.
On the back lawn, cocktails and appetizers were served to guests who sat on white couches under heat lamps. The trees were adorned with white lights and an orchestra played music.
Tobey Mcguire (Holmes' co-star in 2000's Wonder Boys), Winfrey's BFF Gayle King, Rita Wilson, Jeremy Piven and Kirstie Alley also attended.
Shields arrived with husband Chris Henchy. The party was held on her 43rd birthday.
Holmes will make her debut on Broadway this fall in All My Sons. (See her hair through the years).

My concern is not for how these celebrities practice or finance one religion or another. My concern is how that "church" will use that money. Will it hire goons to cause discomfort to anyone speaking against their interest? Will it use their weekly tithes to aggressively impose their religion dogma on others? Will their leaders live in splendor while 1/3 of their faithful starve? Will it refuse them the use of birth control while sexually molesting their children.
We need to concentrate more on what the "church" is doing. Are the faithful merely dupes financing some con's elaborate lifestyle or are they aggressively abetting these con men rather than deal with the fact that they have been hoodwinked. The Japanese call it "losing face" and they committed hara kiri when the "shame " was too much for them. Perhaps sticking with one of these modern snake oil salesmen is a mass form of cultural hara kiri or self abuse.
I have noticed that in the business world the employees are not responsible for the dirty business of their "church" (of greed) AKA any major corporation so should these celebrities be held accountable for how their "church" behaves?
I think, Yes. People running major corporations or financing twisted forms of religion should be held accountable for their willing participation in their "church's" dirty business.

Being Catholic I feel a lot of empathy for Tom and Katie as far as religious discrimination goes. It's so completely sad that anyone actually is concerned about Tom and Katie's personal philosophy and beliefs about life and the afterlife. It's also completely sad that anyone would actually get angry because Tom and Katie chose the religion that they did. I know Tom and Katie and others speak highly of their religion based on their own experiences. They say it works for them and they use it to their advantage so why would anyone want to stop them from doing that? If I want to go to church everyday then let me. If I want to give money to my church, let me. It's anyone basic human right to think freely, believe freely, and support the churches and organizations they believe in. What I've witnessed in the past 3 years is nothing short of a modern day witch hunt done by small-minded, bigoted and hateful individuals and encouraged by the corporate-owned tabloids. History will NOT be kind to these editors and owners of these "news" organizations. Jesus won't and Karma won't either.

OMG...like I had a party this weekend too. All the A-Listers were there like Bubba and his wife Lulu and their kids Bubba Jr. and little Brittany. Oh and don't forget Billy Bob and Tank from the trailer park. We all sat on the old sofa in the front yard in our cocktail attire which for Bubba was the old overalls with no shirt, barefeet and the greasy ballcap. We had an orchestra too! Billy Bob has those big ole speakers in the back of his pickup truck...just as good as a live orchestra. Only problem is the police showed up and asked us to tone it down a little. Oprah was invited, but she couldn't make it for some reason, but Jerry Springer was there with his camera crew. I mean c'mon, if you had a choice between Oprah and Jerry at your party, who would you choose??? The possum appetizers went over well. All in all, a good time.

ahh yah...I worked, picked up my house, then had some friends over too--but we only ate hot dogs, drank cape codders and played horse shoes! no diva driveway or celebrities warming anything of mine. so rich and so fabulous and so ridiculous. hope they had many har-har moments!

Anyone around Tom Cruise, as in friends and family, knows better than to talk. As for caterers and decorators, scientologists hire scientologists, scientologists definitely know better than to talk if they don’t wanna end up in the RPF. Also anyone who is near the Cruise’s signs confidentiality contracts, kind of like anyone joining scientology has to sign contracts. Staff, public, sea org, doesn’t matter you ain’t getting in til you sign over your soul.
