The second time proved to be the charm for this Top 12 finalist, who first sang for the judges in season six. Why wasn’t he snapped up to compete with Jordin and Blake? Blame it on Randy Jackson, who – predictably – just wasn’t feelin’ it, dog.

When the former airport security worker – and member of the Transportation Safety Administration choir – took to the San Diego audition room this year, luck was on is side when he belted “All the Woman I Need” by Luther Vandross. With vocal talents similar to those of R&B crooner Donny Hathaway, Chikezie says his mantra is "Legends are made where genius meets hard work and timing."

Fun fact: The single singer says the one thing fans would be surprised to know is that he’s secretly a soap opera junkie.
