Her new album may be called E=MC2, but Mariah Carey has come to terms with being known a ditz.
"It's a dichotomy, I understand," she tells Allure magazine. "I understand that people think I'm a ditzy moron.”
And don't let Carey's short skirts fool you!
"I'm Mary Poppins: I'm what the button-up girls are supposed to be," she swears to the mag.
Despite her micro-mini skirt from Saturday Night Live this weekend, she sees herself as "eternally 12."
"I've always had really low self-esteem, and I still do," she admits. "What's weird about that is being onstage, and the love that you get, and the adoration that you feel from your real fans. It's hard for a partner to compete – just imagine."
Carey, who's newest single, "Touch My Body," is on track to become her 18th No. 1 single — tying her with the Beatles for having the most chart-toppers — also says she's never had a one-night stand and considers herself a "freakin' prude."
(The 37-year-old has been married once and linked to both Eminem and New York Yankee Derek Jeter. "Not to quote Swingers, but 'we all have stories.' I got a freakin' miniseries in me," she says.)
Instead, the best-selling female of all time focuses on her work.
"It's not that difficult to become exhausted," she says, alluding to her meltdown in 2001. "I have three personal assistants just to keep up with my schedule!"
As for the thinner body she's been flaunting, Carey credits her personal trainer. "I don't know why everyone thinks I lost 30 pounds," she says. "This trainer has actually helped me reshape my arms. That's where I gained most of my weight: upper body. That's just one thing you have to lose weight for."

I have to say that she does just keep doing what she does and she is succeeding quite well at it. Keep going and don't let the haters hold you back. That should be everyone's motto for life. Unfortunately we start to surround ourselves with too many people and listen to too many opinions and then we stumble. I wish her the best.

Do people find joy in coming up with the cruelest, most hurtful things we can say about people we do not personally know? It is pretty easy to say mean things when you are sitting anonymously in front of a computer. Sadly, it seems more natural to people these days to be nasty.

People like Mariah Carey and Christina Aguillera do not need to present themselves in trashy clothes to sell albums, which is why I think they get more backlash for their appearance than say, Britney. She's a product of the media and her team, designed to sell records since her voice isn't the best. Mariah would have more respect if she was known more for her vocal talent than her smutty appearance.

Overstate, much? The "pain in the world" would be eased the minute that greedy politicians continually work in the best interests of humanity, our government takes care of our own, men stop abusing women, men and women remain committed to their spouses and families, and sickness, pain and death were distant memories. Mariah Carey, regardless of how great that you think that she is (and many on this site obviously disgagree with you!), can not "ease the pain in the world with just her voice." If anything, as evidenced by the comments on this site, she irritates people and make them want to throw tomatoes at her! In the past, she promised to cover up, but since she admits that she is "eternally twelve," it is OBVIOUS that the woman has some serious mental issues. I have never found her face or body attractive and the way that she treats her staff and fans (which is insulting and condescending) has been well documented. Why anyone would buy her music is beyond me! And thanks poster for putting that "she outsold the Beatles" crap into perspective. There are millions more people on the earth now compared to when the Beatles and other TRUE GREATS were on the scene.

I get really tired of hearing about how present artists surpass or tie with past historical artists records. Reason? Because there are MILLIONS - get it...MILLIONS - more people in the world than then there were in the 60's when the Beatles made recording history.

I agree that Mariah is a gifted woman. However, she has not found her place in music, just yet. Age doesn't mean a thing because she has it all, it's just not packaged appropriately.
She has enormous potential! I just saw a show by Sarah Brightman at a cathedral in Venice and all I could think about was Mariah. She has a voice that should be heard in cathedrals as well. She needs to forget about hip-hop because it doesn't suit her voice at all. I find her singing choppy because her voice just wants to leap out and be heard.
She's a powerful singer and with her range she should have the whole world anticipating her next concert! But, instead, she has to be the DIVA who continually has to flaunt her body and act silly. Doesn't she know that the less she shows leaves more to the imagination? We should see her in the best designs and materials that accentuate her fabulous good looks instead.
She is much more than a DIVA or a Superstar, she has received a rare gift and hasn't put it to good use. She has the potential to be one of the greatest vocalist ever and I don't understand why she isn't headed in the right direction. It pains me to see someone who has so much to offer the world not take advantage of it and reach for the stars! Does she not know that she can ease the pain in the world just with her voice? Such a waste if she doesn't turn her life around take control ASAP!

Mariah Carey just needs to face the fact that she's had her time and now it's time for her to give it up. Ever since she went "Hip-Hop" or wutever she calls her stuff now it's terrible she doesn't even SING anymore she whispers all of her songs. She's so busy with her appearence that she fails in the talent department, maybe if she focuses more on her singing than her cleavage or how much skin she should show she could make a strong comeback but as of rite now she suxs. Truthfully her voice is absolutely amazing she could blow so many stars out the water but rite now she's sinking more than anything else. As far as her style goes stop dressing like an 18 year old and start dressing more age appropriate. You can have style and still dress your age take Jennifer Lopez for example she's a very classy woman who should give Mariah some pointers.
