Lindsay Lohan plays a kidnapping victim who is tortured in her latest thriller, I Know Who Killed Me. But whatever she suffers under her attacker is nothing compared to what she’s enduring from critics right now.

The film, which finds Lohan, 21, playing dual roles as a college student named Aubrey and a stripper named Dakota, is being savaged by critics. (“No prizes for guessing which performance is more believable,” snipes The New York Times.)

The movie didn’t fare much better at the box office. I Know Who Killed Me debuted in 9th place at the box office this weekend, bringing in an unfortunate $3.4 million.

See below for a review roundup:

The New York Times:
But both characters are significantly more credible than the plot, a baroque blend of severed limbs, secular stigmata and prostheses doubling as ceiling ornaments...The film does, however, offer the intriguing image of Ms. Lohan trying to stitch herself back together — a scene just begging for a metaphorical reading...Pretentious and inane, “I Know Who Killed Me” arouses unexpected sympathy for its embattled star.

Associated Press:
It makes you wonder what Lohan was thinking when she said yes to this project...You want to know who killed her? She’s doing it to herself.

New York Daily News:
The truth is, no review could really do justice to the monumental trashiness of this mess; it really has to be seen to be believed. Although if Lohan is lucky, no one will bother.

The New York Post:
...sleazy, inept and worthless piece of torture porn...Is [Lohan] now playing the sort of exploitation role that usually goes to desperate beginners because of her apparent lack of self-esteem, or because better offers are drying up due to her hard-partying reputation?

The Onion’s AV Club:
I Know Who Killed Me…may just mark the nadir in Lindsay Lohan's sad, excruciatingly public descent from hot young star to walking punchline...Having broken free of the Disney machine that molded her, Lohan now seems intent on destroying her career and credibility on her own terms.

MTV.com:
Why Lohan thought it was worthwhile to get day passes out of rehab last year to make this picture is more mystifying than anything Dakota and Aubrey get up to. Her career could take a hit only if anybody goes to see this thing. For her, that may be the only good news of the week.
