Miss Teen South Carolina, Caitlin Upton, became an internet sensation for all the wrong reasons when she bumbled her answer to a geography question during the Aug 24 Miss Teen USA competition. After four days to reconsider her answer, Upton appeared on the Today show to redeem herself, and blamed "nerves" for her earlier mistake.

All she had to say is that education in the United States (Yes I said United States) High Schools is poor. Many students graduate High School without knowing how to read and write, let alone read a map.

One with the slightest bit of common sense would have done some sort of research on the subject...memorizing some random fact is not rocket science, but she couldn't even come up with that idea. And then they clap for you like she's some 3 year old that's just crapped in a toilet for the first time. ..idiots..

I think that she was completely taken aback considering her question was actually original & something that couldn't be prepared for. All of the others had the same old softball questions (ie. Who do you most admire? What is the most important thing that has happened in your life?). They all had scripted/rehearsed answers! Give me a break! Leave the poor girl alone!

made a mistake, it happens. The situation she was in was such a nerve-racking experience. Obviously the question caught her off guard and she make a mistake initially and then couldn't redeem herself. Lay off people, I highly doubt that any of you could do better than her.
