Kelly Clarkson is a no-nonsense gal who recently said she "[loves] food far too much" to ever develop an eating disorder. But even "Miss Independent" struggled with her body image at one time. In CosmoGirl!'s August issue, Clarkson, 25, reveals that she became bulimic after she was passed over for a role in her high school musical. "I thought...If I came back and I'm cuter and thinner...then I'll get the role."
For six months, Clarkson was bulimic, until a friend discovered her problem. "One of my guy friends caught on to it, and I just felt so ashamed and embarassed," she tells the mag. "I literally went cold turkey and snapped out of it."
Since her bout with bulimia in high school, Clarkson has worked hard to foster a positive body image, for herself and others. "I've got a butt, I'm Greek- I can't help that. And I think it's good for people to see normal."

i was never bulimic but i have struggled a great deal with eating problems.i was anorexic for two ears and i didnt think i could change it but one of my best friends sat there with me watching me stare at my food for hours before i ate it, he helped me through it....every now and then i start skipping meals again but im always honest with him, hes the only person i talk to about it, and he gets me through it everytime.
and for those of you who still struggle dont give up, it gets better, i know it doesnt look that way but i promise the sun always comes after the rain.
and for those of you who put down on people about it, its not there choice you dont just wake up and decide to quit eating, it comes with stress, anxiety, depression, its not there fault and it notyour buisness.
i love you kelly clarkson
I was bulimic for 2 years. On my way to sleep one nite i felt like i was slipping away, i couldnt breath much cuz i didnt have the strength, I couldnt do anything but think about what i was doing to myself , and most importantly what i was doing to the people that i care about. That nite i decided it was either straightin up and get over it or just give up. Im not a quitter so the next day i didnt purge or anything i ate normal and i made it work. now its been 3 months and no problem. To all of you people out there that are bulimic, Dont give up , if you can do that much harm to yourself then you can help yourself get better, all you have to do is beleive in the power that you hold. o yea and another thing, dont put down on kelly clarkson whether she was bulmic or not , no one has a rite to critizice anyone for any reason.
I don't think it's very nice for you guys to be calling her fat. I do agree however from experience in struggling with an eating disorder that she could have not just stopped cold turkey. And just a side note, most bulimics are normal weight or overweight. Unless they have some anorexic tendencies, xhances are they probably won't be underweight. Stop being rude and start focusing on your own lives if you even have one. Sure, she might not have had a full blown eating disorder, just some eating problems, but I'm sure if she saw these comments they wouldn't help and might even cause her to develop one.
I personally think that television is taking over what young people see them selfs like. Like Canada or Americas next top model. Those girls arn't even pretty but they get them because they are skinny and tall. Guys don't like girls that are too thin. And i think television should stop makiing adds for smaller clothes and make bigger ones bc most people are over weight and when they cant fit into the clothes they like they will do anything to fit in to them.
hey i fink wot u all doin iz fightin wid eachotha iz silly cant we al just get along? i mean we dnt know for sure if kelly clarkson iz bilimic or not
Kelly has an extremely talented voice. Nobody's voice has moved me since Pat Benatar's . Now there's Kelly! Excellent!!!
i've been battling bulimia for some time yet,i feel really good to hear kelly clarkson say that she's been able to get over it and accept herself for who she is. feeling comfortable in your own skin is really hard.it brings alot of stress off my shoulders to know that there are very successful people who aren't successful through being thin. kelly has always been my idol before i knew she was bulimic and she's really inspiring me. kelly, thank you. =]
to those of you who shared your history and thoughts regarding bulimia and eating disorders...i completely agree! i was furious to read that kelly clarkson claims she just 'snapped out of it'!!!! i've struggled with bulimia for 23 years, 8 of which i abstained from purging, but binged off and on. i recently relapsed and it's a daily fight for me to create a positive, undistorted body image. shame on kelly for minimizing such a devastating disorder!
I find Kelly Clarkson's 'bulimia' completely ridiculous.
Anyone who has suffered from any kind of eating disorder knows that you can't just 'snap out' after six months.
That you can't just stop cold turkey.
This was just an attempt for her to join the 'cool' eating disordered stars, raise her sales, and get some pity from the public.
What a pathetic (and kind of offensive to those who suffer) attempt.
hey "She didn't have bulimia"
that is exactly what I thought when I read that she went cold turkey... If that is the case why are there so many people suffering with eating disorders... most want to be able to eat normally but they can't...
all ya'll lil snobs dat keep calin kelly fat and ugly apparently need 2 focus on ur own body and look ,not every1 else's.becuz not every1 n the worlds not built like an anorexic lil barbie doll...and shes not even fat,and shes defenitly not ugly .ur all just jealous bcuz she has sucseeded more n life than ya'll ever will..//so just get a life k!!!
I cant believe how judgemental and mean some of you are, not only in talking about KC but to each other.y'all need to grow a heart and some sensativity, and while yer at it,try Growing Up!Kuddos to Kelly!
All of you should be ashamed of yourselves. Who are any of you to judge someone, let alone someone you only know through the media. Kelly Clarkson is a role model for our generation. We all have demons in our closet and sometimes they get out, especially if your a celebrity. I'm assuming that everyone who posted something is not a celebrity because if you were you would know what it is to live your life under a microscope. I give kudos to kelly for being honest about her disorder. Not many people can admit mistakes they've made. It takes great courage to do so, especially telling the world.
booooo what ever to Kelly!! she is a weird looking girl!!
I'm greek and I'm not a fatass.
She was bulimic?! You obviously can't tell that now. Get a trainer. Or a dietician. Or a toilet. Blarf.
Yes,just like I snapped out of my anorexia...Not the therapy, or doctors or hospitals helped me eventually recover, I just snapped out of it...My biggest pet peeve is people who have' eating disorders', that just snapped out of it one day. It's BS. She probably didn't have bulimia, she probably had some eating problems, they are NOT the same thing.
Your Greek? what's that supposed to mean? Greek people are known for having big noses, not big butts. I'm greek and no one in my family has a big butt!
10:36--COME ON NOW!!!
ANONYMOUS 10:04-- Perhaps you wouldn't be so unhappy if you were't such an unattractive person inside and out. I have no doubt that most people you meet can't stand you . You really should get a personality makeover.
By the way --Don't bother replying as I am through with you, and your negativity.
How convenient to bring out your "eating disorder" Kelly! Why didn't you mention this when Breakway came out? Oh yeah, that album was a success. This one is going to be a garaunteed flop.
ANON 11:41 says
"Based on your comment, I recommend that you not reproduce until you can stop being an idiot."
You just made my day. I laughed out loud and I totally agree with your comment. Funny!
Who cares if an actor or singer has/had an eating disorder. Why isn't us doing a music review on Kelly? And why is the public so crazy about these stories? Can she perform well? Who cares about the rest???
Let's move on!
I'm so tired of all the focus on women's weight. Why has Us magazine been running it as a cover story so frequently??? I so DO NOT care, and I'm not buying any Us magazine when the cover story is on weight. If I wanted to read about weight, I'd buy a fitness magazine. WTF is wrong with you women always picking on each other, calling each other fat? You're holding yourselves down. Get a life.

"That's the fatest bullimic I've ever seen. She's huge, because she loves to eat, b!tch excersice, eat healthy. Gluttony is not pretty when kids are starving in Africa."
Hey Einstein, the article says she was bulimic (or as you wrote, "bullimic") in high school, not today. She looks fine now in her mid-20s, very much like the average woman.
Based on your comment, I recommend that you not reproduce until you can stop being an idiot.
Kelly seems so genuine and real....it took a lot of nerve to share something that hard.
Kelly is a mean person. She needs to go back to the dust bowl which is Texas and sing in church or something. She's so over.
That's the fatest bullimic I've ever seen. She's huge, because she loves to eat, b!tch excersice, eat healthy. Gluttony is not pretty when kids are starving in Africa.
Amen 4:17 AM Ellie!
And for all those calling Kelly fat..have you checked a full length mirror lately?
