Keith Urban posted a video message on his Web site on Monday thanking his fans for their support during his three-month stay in rehab for alcohol abuse.
On Urban’s site, the country music star says that there was no "big cataclysmic event” that led to him checking into the Betty Ford Center in Palm Springs, California, on October 19.
“A lot of small things that were happening in my life… were telling me very loud and clear that I was a long way from my program of recovery,” he explains in the message, adding that his life was becoming “unmanageable.”
Urban, 39, says that rehab taught him “that abstinence is the ticket into the movie, it’s not the movie.”
He admits that he’d originally planned on a 30-day stint at the center, but ended up staying three months.
“With each week that passed, I really learned to surrender,” he says. “It’s been one of the most impactful times of my life.”
The singer ended his online communiqué by thanking his friends, family and fans, as well as his wife of seven months, actress Nicole Kidman, 39, for standing by him these last 90 days. “My wife stayed extraordinarily strong and loving,” he says.
In December, Nashville-based lingerie model Amanda Wyatt claimed to a Britsh tabloid that she and Urban carried on a sex-and-drugs-fueled affair throughout his engagement to the actress. "I feel sorry for Nicole," Wyatt, 23, told the Mail on Sunday of the alleged nearly two-year relationship.
"Keith cheated on her repeatedly with me, right up to just before they got married." More shocking? Wyatt also claims that she and Urban last saw each other in early October, just two weeks before he checked into rehab.
Not so, said Urban's rep, who told Us Weekly that Wyatt's story is a "fictitious tale."

I give both Keith and Nicole an A+ in their relationship as well as responding to their own problems while under a microscope. My wish is for magazines and the news media to leave these people alone - let them move on with their lives. I for one am just happy listening to Keith's CD's while looking forward to attending one of his concerts. He's a class act, a very talented young man. Nicole should be applauded for her support of Keith which is of no surprise - you just have to look at pictures of the two of them together to realize that they are deeply in love. Nicole is one talented actress and humanitarian. Give credit to Keith and Nicole where credit is due!

I'm sure that should the marriage not work out it most likely would not be a case of not standing by her man. She is there for his recovery, and she is still there despite some chick claiming to have had an affair. If she was going to jump ship for some silly reason, it seems she would have done it by now. Not to say they'll last, not all marriages do and only those in them know why. Kudos to Keith for getting help.

of COURSE Nicole is going to stand by her man. She needs a new "baby daddy" since Tom apparently won't let her see those adopted children that are now being brainwashed in the Scientology cult. I read that Tom/Katie and Nicole/Keith were at one of the same post GG bashes and a lot was made out of the fact that the 2 couples "almost had to face each other", etc... Excuse me, but if I were Nicole, and I knew that the stepmother and father of my children, who apparently see them a hell of a lot more than I do, were in the room, wouldn't you talk to them? Do you mean to tell me that Tom and Nicole haven't spoken since divorcing, not even re: their kids? Weird.. All of them. I would be an addict too if I had married into that. Now that you're sober you'll see that your wife really is a robot. Good luck with that.

I think Nicole will continue to stick by Keith. She seems to be truly in love with him and that's refreshing to see. They both seem to be taking their marriage vows to heart so I'm rooting for them.

i think she needs to drop him like a hot potato number one she is not for him. Some people just look like they are suppost to be together (ie Victoria and David Beckham) and they dont. They are from two totally different worlds country and hollywood ummm dont think so just look at Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney they didnt last long. I somewhat believe the model i mean come on he was just in rehab for 90 days for alcohol i believe he does drugs too. Thank god she has a prenup :)

I think these two are adorable together but I highly doubt they will last. You fall in love with someone who is a certain way then they get sober and you realize that they werent who you thought they were, you fell in love with the addict.

PS~ I scanned the article and didn't read the part where he cheated. That is the only thing that I wouldn't tolerate from someone I love. If it's true, he's a dirtbag and worthless in my book. 1st off, I hate Nicole Kidman, but I have to give her credit for being one of the few decent human beings (as far as I can see)in Hollywood. That said, it's kind of sad that he needs to point out how she's "strong and loving" since most people aren't or may not be under those circumstances (particularly in Hollywood). This thought popped up when I imagined my man having to go to rehab or something and I'm thinkin', how could I not be strong and loving when he's going through something difficult? Then I remembered: most people are so freaking selfish that it apparently needs to be pointed out when someone is actually devoted to someone they "love". This is such a demented world. People are just so far gone.

As a recovering alcoholic...all I can say is I hope Keith gets a sober friend to travel with him on the road. I'm in show biz. The world thing is being surrounded by partying people and you're the only one sober. It won't work that way. Good luck Keith.

This couple reminds me of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. When I see them look at one another I see a couple truly in love - soulmates. I admire Keith for doing the right thing despite the timing with the release of his album, public opinion etc. What he did was actually very brave. Nicole is also very courageous and strong for standing by him in his time of need. It could not have been easy but they must be very much in love and hopefully their marriage will be stronger for it. That is what marriage should be all about, supporting the other person and standing by eachother when times are tough. Everyone has problems, I think the way they handled theirs was very inspirational.

Yes, I believe in true love - "sickness and health" and Nicole will stand by her husband. Keith chose the right path, maybe not the "most convenient time," but he has a lifetime of achievements to look forward to and without having good health there is nothing. I applaud Keith for taking measures at the correct time when he felt it was necessary and not be dictated to by his album's release date, his birthday, awards shows...life will go on but the main thing is he got his life in order and now they both have much to celebrate as a couple.
