I admire her guts and honesty. It's refreshing!

Katherine Heigl is knocking her summer hit Knocked Up for being "a little sexist.
“It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as goofy, fun-loving guys,” the actress — who just turned 29
— tells January's Vanity Fair.
“It was hard for me to love the movie,” she says, even though the comedy elevated her asking price from $300,000 to $6 million for her next flick.
Heigl also says she’s grown wary of her Grey’s Anatomy character, Izzie, who had a fling with her married pal, George (T.R. Knight).
“It was a ratings ploy,” she says. “I’m trying to figure her out and keep her real.”
Tell Us: Did you think Knocked Up was sexist?

Wow you mean a broad comedy used one note characetures for laughs! I am outraged. I swear I will try to laugh less the next time I see this funny movie!
“Katherine Heigl sort of irks me a bit. Who shoots a blockbuster hit that really catapults them into fame (it's one thing to be on a hit tv show and it's another thing to be in a box office hit) and then complains about it?”
Actually quite a lot of celebrities do that. You know how many Flicks Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe have shot and have made millions out of it but then complained how crappy script was? It’s not uncommon for big stars to do so. As for yout little analogy. Uhm Being on a Hit TV show actually has more advantages than being in ONE box office hit. It’s that hit tv show that got her name out and Judd Apatow is just lucky to have her on board, because overall his only knack seems to be stupid comedy flicks that only have a certain chuckle factor to it.
“The role could have gone to a number of other equally qualified actresses (if not more qualified) who wouldn't turn around and knock the movie (no pun intended).”
That’s because the role is nothing special. I agree any actress could have pulled it of and the director is just lucky enough to have her this movie.
“Couldn't she have brought up these issues before hand so that maybe something could have been done?”
Well obviously not since they were already FILMING the movie and it was near completion. Plus she even said that she only recently thought of it when she saw the movie for the first time. I mean at that stage of the filming process, it’s kind late.
“Honestly, as a woman, I found the female characters to be grating and annoying, but if they weren't, where would the comedy be?”
So then that’s not sexist? FI all female characters are grating annoying and always blame the man for everything that goes wrong in her life, is that not a sexist stereotype?
I am so sick of these people judging everything that these actresses say and take to heart. It’s a comment. And it happens to be accurate. Get over it haters.
There are a Lot of Idiots here posting and I gotta say that you keep bringing up money as a factor but when you actually LOOK at the movie, it is quite sexist. They paint this whole image where men are better than women and all that crap and show how women have their lives more smoother and what not and it's always the MAN's fault when something goes wrong. If you actually think about it, Judd Apatow really paints his male characters as these slacker losers which in a way IS kinda sexist since he is contrasting his female counter parts as these women that ordinary guys are to scared to even look at.
PS My and "Mandyh"'s point (page 3, top comment) also agre with James (see below). I agree with her completely,. Good flick though all the same.
She hates this, but she took the money and ran? Many posts have made this post. Mandy (top of third page) made the best point though, it was just a comment about it, I'm watching it it, and it is sexist but it is very funny. (On YouTube she was interviewed, about being pregant..) It does have Seth Rogen yelling at her in a car, and when she IS giving birth (in a scene played for "comedy") sher yells "Get OUt'(on the gurney as some of Rogen's pals from the Juddd Apatow stock company (he wrote and directed) come in the hospital rooM!)
For god's sake - for all the 'sexist against women' talk, couldn't it equally said that it is sexist in the sense that it portrays men as being irresponsible and disgusting slobs just as much as it's sexist for portraying the women to be perhaps a wee-bit uptight.
And I couldn't agree more with James when he says what is most sexist about it is that it is emphasised that men are always the problem in the relationship and in need of changing, and that a guy can't be himself and better "sharpen up his act" (ie succumb to her demands) if he wants her to stick around. This perpetuates the societal myth that men are always ones in the wrong and the ones who need to assume full responsibility in the event of a relationship failing, and gives franchise to women's belief that they are entitled to be completely selfish in relationships and disregard mens' needs entirely.
This is just ridiculous. As someone said, it's a movie - it is what it is. The hypocrasy is grating. Look at anon's comment:
Quote:
"of course irt's sexit and those men i.e prick sayin it's not are jus insecure as usual so u know wat boys GTE A LIFE AND F?!? OFF! Women will always be better than men.As we are not as insecure as you"
Now who is the insecure one here? It's this type of b/s that men just can't stand. Who is being sexist in this comment? There is nothing remotely close in this so called sexist movie to a point blank assertion that "Men are alwys better than women". You get a life Anon you're pathetic.
I thought Knocked Up was totally sexist. I'm impressed that Heigl would have the guts to say so.
The movie pretends to be a film about the hard choices an unwed pregnant woman has to make, but it's not. Really, it's geek-loser-boy fantasy about getting the girl he dreams about but couldn't possibly get in reality.
So, good for Heigl.
of course irt's sexit and those men i.e prick sayin it's not are jus insecure as usual so u know wat boys GTE A LIFE AND F?!? OFF! Women will always be better than men.As we are not as insecure as you.
whatever the movie was hilarious... wait what oh yeah its a comedy and it was sexist... im sure there are no sexist movies depicting men as pigs right. whatever its a movie and it is what it is. cash the check and smile!
So I assume she will be returning the money that she made on this offensive film, right? What a self-righteous idiot. Who the hell even heard of this cooz before this film? Stupid obnoxious hypocrite. NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOUR OPINIONS!!!!!
TO 7:25 PM-right on! I couldn't write it any better!
She needs to hop aboard Brit's crazy train & go away!! They need to stop & pick up LaLohan. She needs to give the $ back if she feels 'that bad about it.' She needs to get over herself!!!
Gee, funny how all of a she sudden gets this crisis of conscience soon after her movie quote goes up to $8 mil/pic. I guess she learned how to read scripts AFTER she cashed her check for doing Knocked Up. Her hypocrisy is stunning. Also, not afraid to burn bridges with that production company I guess.
Most ironic thing is she's only famous for her looks and body. She's a feeble actress.
I agree with her completely. I actually thought the movie was funny and enjoyable, but it was clearly written by a very immature guy who was faking an ending that he thought people would want. The worst part of the movie was Judd Apatow's wife. Man, what a useless woman. And Paul Rudd was this great guy, great dad, and all she did was complain. And in the stupidest, most selfish way. And at the end of the movie, we're supposed to accept that he's the one who's the problem in the relationship? Because he wants some time to himself, or with his friends? Ridiculous. She's the one who needs to grow up, but this shallow understanding of women and relationships, comes to a conclusion that only a emotional child could come to.
Still, it was funny when it wasn't trying to "grow up."
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, 4:22 "M"! I'm so tired of their fratboy garbage. They need to grow the f-ck up!
I used to wonder why there were all these haters on the message boards but now I know why. It's a movie. Quit differing your opinions when it comes to Gizzie. Everybody knows this relationship would not be ideal in real life.
She is an excellent woman. But I dont think she's very sexy, let alone the sexiest. I have seen many many sexy women at the celeb club millionairecupid.com. I can pick a dozen of women who are more sexy than her. An excellent woman with "the sexiest" character will make this movie very interesting. I think I will love it.
I guess Knocked Up was her life story, humorless and uptight, and yes, a shrew.
I think it's call biting the hand that fed you.
She is the biggest blowhard in Hollywood right now. She has an opinion on everything, and tells it to whomever might listen (and even those of us who aren't, and couldn't care less, catch wind).... we get it!!!!, you don't like Isaiah, poor TR, you support writers, your movie is sexist, your man can't have women on his tour bus, blah blah blah....blech! Enough already. Silence would be golden where this broad is concerned. I cannot stand her. She has never said one thing that I thought had any substance.
Katherine Heigl sort of irks me a bit. Who shoots a blockbuster hit that really catapults them into fame (it's one thing to be on a hit tv show and it's another thing to be in a box office hit) and then complains about it? The role could have gone to a number of other equally qualified actresses (if not more qualified) who wouldn't turn around and knock the movie (no pun intended). Couldn't she have brought up these issues before hand so that maybe something could have been done? Honestly, as a woman, I found the female characters to be grating and annoying, but if they weren't, where would the comedy be? The tension between the male characters who were too laid back versus the female characters who were too strict (not the word I'm looking for but I can't think of how else to phrase it) makes for the comedic scenarios that go on in the movie. If there was no conflict, there would be no plot and there would be no movie. She actually seems like she'd be a lot like her character in the movie (not that I know her but I get that sense from the little bit I've seen of her in interviews).
hmm... i haven't seen knocked up. i'm sure it does have a sexist slant. there are plenty of hollywood movies that like to paint a picture of women as she described. but she did take the job and the money. some actresses turn down roles if they don't agree with a portrayal. artistic freedom vs. principles?
She really bothers me, she always has something to say, I agree, although Isiah Washington was wrong, she fueled his firing, and that frustrated me. She should feel blessed she has had so much success, especially since she plays annoying characters, she is entitled and don't bite the hand that feeds you.
I hate how TV makes it look like women are these needy things just trying to find a man to tie down and marry. I'm way more of a commitment phobe than any guy I know. So I can't really relate to these women whose lives revolve around getting and keeping a man.
I agree with her on Izzie. I'd have a hard time relating to a character who would do what Izzie did, but she's done a good job of "keeping her real." I don't think Knocked Up made her look character look bad. Her character was fun. It made her sister character look a little shrewish, but it was funny. I loved the movie.
get over it people. dont listen to her if you don't like it. whatever she wants to say or do she can.
she can say whatever she wants.
It seems as though pretty much all contemporary entertainment has a sexist slant. From movies and television to commercials on television. There seems to be this "goofy guys club" where the main nemisis and enemy are women. The men are fun-loving kids just out to drink some beers and have a little harmless fun and women are pains in the rear witches out to ruin it all. Since when is it so uncool to be a resposible adult, and along the same lines, when did women become militant nags with no sense of humor? As someone who tries to be the best girlfriend, daughter, sister, co-worker, and friend that I'm able to be, this kind of accepted sexism in entertainment is not only hurtful, it's wrong.
well, what is her opinion of "Bride of Chucky" and how it portrays dolls who are two feet tall??????
