Last Thursday on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Kate Beckinsale revealed that (if you're squeamish, now's the time to check out our Web site's lovely features section to the right)Â when she was nursing her daughter, Lily, now 7, she more than mastered the art of lactating -- and across great distances, no less. Beckinsale told Leno:
"I do sort of miss breast feeding, I was very good at it. I've got, like, many useless talents…Breast feeding is like, you call up a pizza and if you call it up a lot, like 27 pizzas arrive. And that's what I was like. I could hit the wall from quite a distance."

actually, women walking around topless is legal in several areas, so the comparison to peeing and having sex is moot as those are illegal. it was legal in washington dc at one point, although i am not sure if that still stands. i could care less if others are uncomfortable about my feeding my child. don't look. i am more worried about the comfort of my baby. when more places have clean areas that are private that is not in a bathroom then perhaps they will be used, but until then i am not leaving a room to feed my baby. many malls in my area are huge, there is no reason for me to walk from one end to get to the parking lot and sit in my car as if i am doing something wrong, all the time carrying a hungry, loud, girl.

a little too much info....and while breast feeding is a natural thing, i don't think everyone needs to see it. at some point, we all have to consider if it makes other people uncomfortable. as others have said, there are plenty of "natural" acts that we don't do in public - there is something to be said for privacy and modesty! really, if you weren't breast feeding, would you walk around topless?

why should i have to hide feeding my child because i breastfeed instead of bottle feed? breasts were made for one reason only, to feed our children. when did that become taboo? wasn't it when men told us to cover up? i do not understand how people can be insulted or offended by a natural maternal act. i don't know of many places that even provide a private room to breastfeed in. i am sure that a lot of women would choose to use one if it were available, but in the absence of one what should they do? be banished to their cars and homes? for doing something encouraged?

Whats the big deal? Breastfeeding is a natural thing. Im pretty darn good at too but Im not gonna tell the world how good. Do it in public, so what, the kid has to eat too, but your weird little tricks, keep them to yourself, who cares anyway.

I must have missed where it is Okay for us to show our boobs in public. It is called having class or morals. There are a lot of things our bodies can do but nothing we as ladies would choose to do in public. I have bottle and breast fed both my children, but I have never breast fed in public. I used the woman’s changing rooms at malls and other comfortable locations to breast feed with out whipping it out in public and then suffocating my child with a blanket.

i agree with patti right on.we have breast to nurse children(if some woman choose to) not show off and hang out.back in the day how do you think children were fed,cause bottle were not out the woman breastfeed.now that there are bottles woman have a choice between bottles or breastfeed i have done both.i don't see whats the big deal with breastfeeding it's such a natural beautiful thing and if she wants to talk about it what the problem.

i agree with those who said it's not a big deal. for some reason it is ok to see boobs all over, to have cleavage shoved in our faces, but it's not ok to actually discuss what they are made for.
