Your credit’s no good here, John Mayer! On September 29, Mayer, 29, and his new girlfriend, Friday Night Lights star Minka Kelly, 27, picked out $400 worth of goods at Circuit City in Santa Monica, California. But when the crooner went to pay with his American Express Black Card, the clerk — who didn’t recognize Mayer — asked to see an ID, an eyewitness tells Us Weekly. After Mayer said, “I actually lost my ID and don’t have one,” the clerk “advised John he would not be able to buy anything.” Says the observer, “John was so embarrassed. Minka was smiling and giggling and rubbed his back in support.” Eventually, the clerk recognized him, approved the purchase and apologized profusely. Says the onlooker, “John and Minka laughed and said it was no big deal before they paid and left the store holding hands.”

i am the clerk i really apologize 2 john about that but its in my job description and i didnt do anything to him that i wouldnt do 2 the average customer. Sorry but true, still i do apologize, but honestly it wasnt even that big 2 make news like that i just asked for ID, and he still got his items (after i recognized him). it was all less than a 3 minute process

oh by the way? does anyone watch the gene simmons family jewels show? when he had plastic surgery, he went to the store to buy cottage cheese and the clerk refused at first to accept his credit card because he didn't look like the pic on his license...he was pretty cool about it too..yeah some celebs (or just uberwealthy, noncelebs) are arses about it, but not all are the ogres we think them to be.

He ought to be glad that the clerk refused to sell him anything without ID...many don't even ask for it...but what if it wasn't JM trying to use his card? then he would have had an even bigger headache. I think the clerk did the right thing.

I agree with Ashley. At least they were civil about it. A lot of celebs would've pulled the whole, "Don't you know who I am?" card. I hate egos.

I live on a budget and I pay all my bills on time and I have a valid ID & drivers license and my credit card isn't declined. So what is up with these celeb's that don't? There is NO excuse for this, especially because they have the money. Ignornance is no excuse

his card was declined, they just asked for ID, that has happened to me when I get a replacement card and use it for the first time (just in case someone stole your mail).
