Usmagazine.com spotted John Mayer out at NYC's Rose Bar last night.
"John was chatting with a bunch of women," a witness said. (The Hills’ Lauren Conrad, 21, was also holding court at the bar, though the two were not there together.)The singer was surrounded by even more fans on Saturday night at NYC's Mercury Lounge where he took the stage unannounced for an impromptu set.
One concertgoer in attendance told
Perez Hilton that his new music “sounds great.” The eyewitness added: “One song is an obvious slap to the Jessica Simpsons of the world!”
On his personal blog, in a post dated October 14, Mayer briefly touched on the rumors that his new album is about his famous ex, saying that he’s “ready to accept the fact that some people will try and read into the lyrics and make gossip out of them, but I can't worry about that.”
Mayer, who turns 30 today, continued: “Trying to avoid that would be the worst thing for my songwriting. I won't let the success I've had make me comfortable, or the media exposure make me fearful of expressing myself.”

First of all whether you look at Jess as an idiot or not that's your own opinion. Yes, she may have said many dumb things, however atleast she wasn't being fake and someone she's not. She's not afriad to make a fool out of herself and that's what I love about her. Some celebrities try and be something they're not, but Jess is very down to earth. Another thing, she also is very successful with her music, movies, shoe line, swimwear, dessert, and a lingerie line on the way...looks like she's making out ok if you ask me. If John Mayer's song is about Jess then that is very immature of him and he obviously still has some sort of feelings left for her. He's having trouble moving on and can't just let her go...pathetic

I really think John Mayer is very talented, intelligent,and attractivce to boot. I'm listeneing to "continuum" right now-he has a unique style and his only fault was he got mixed up with a couple of Hollywood cookie-cutters-who out there hasn't made bad choices with relationships-I wish him the best and hope he keeps the music coming. (P.S. How many people on this chat site are male wanna-be musicians? lol)

Is this news to you? Pot is nothing. Acid and coke were the fuel of the day in the first 20 years of the magazine. The first that the public saw of Fear and Loathing was in Rolling Stone. It's not Teen Beat, though it has shown signs that it wishes to be on occasion.
That they've started giving press to "obscure" artists is the first sign of credibility the mag has shown since the 70s. The good music tends to be found in "obscurity", where a band's look and PR value is irrelevant. Pay attention to that section of the mag and disregard all other music matters, especially the record reviews.

Rolling Stone is stupid. They have totally lost their credibility, so who are they to judge? They must make deals with people: openly do drugs with us and we'll give you good coverage. Here's the list of people who have done drugs in Rolling Stone as far as I know: John Mayer (pot), Justin Timberlake (pot), James Blunt (ecstasy). Everybody's doing it now. Hey, what's with the sausage party - no chicks yet? Anyway. They always put stupid little teenyboppers on the cover to sell more at the newsstand, and then on the inside, they slam the teenyboppers and recommend these sh!tty obscure artists, but it's clear what they're up to there. It's a total sham.
I think music magazines are on their way out since everybody just reads about stuff and listens to music on the internet. They've lost their power and they are really pathetically trying to cling to it, by appealing to what I guess is an audience of 13 year old male potheads. But ret@rds like John Mayer still think it matters that Rolling Stone says he's talented. I think he's about 13 years old at heart, not 30. Grow up, John.

I totally agree 5:56. It's a crazy world. Just like Justin Timberlake, who is also completely full of himself, John Mayer gets away with it. People don't seem to care. I mean, if you like somebody's songs, I guess you have to tolerate their personality, but as for people actually liking John Mayer as a person, and defending him, I don't get it, because clearly he's a jerk. These musician guys really overdo it with the ego these days. Who the f*ck do they think they are? Because they all suck now. I guess people like the Rolling Stones, back in the day, they had a lot of ego I'm sure, but it seems like they would put on the charm, whereas these guys today in interviews are like the ugliest people. It's hard to even read interviews with them, they're so unpleasant. It's like a competition to see who can give the nastiest interview. Or do drugs with the interviewer. Who do they think they're impressing?

Cracks me up how so many on this blog are certain about what Mayer is thinking [humanly impossible even if you know him personally, but good luck there!] and making all these absolute judgments about what is good music.
Art is not a pass/fail, right/wrong, good/bad deal. Its value is completely subjective and a matter of taste and preference.
Even more laughable are those all wrapped around the axel about Mayer's looks compared to The Boy-Bander, as if it's obvious that the prettier boy has more value. Again its totally a matter of personal preference and attraction.

I have been a John Mayer fan since 2001. You folks who are dissing don't know what he's about...you folks don't know his work...all you know him as is the ex-boyfriend of Jessica Simpson.
If you're gonna hate on John Mayer, make sure you know your stuff. You should know everything about that person, or subject, if your gonna hate on them.
John's a funny guy, a wise ass, if you watched his documentaries, interviews, and his one show caled "John Mayer has a TV Show," then you'd understand that he is really funny and he's like that class clown that may come off as rude sometimes.
Dating Jessica Simpson ruined John Mayer's career, just a tad. He'll be back writing awesome lyrics again...who cares who the lyrics are written about, or to...I appreciate good writing all around. John Mayer is a good writer, for sure.
