Autopsy results in Heath Ledger's January 22 death should be available within the next 48 hours, a rep for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of New York announced Monday.
The announcement comes as the late actor's grieving family return to Australia.
The Associated Press reports that they arrived in their native Perth Tuesday and were ushered immediately from the plane and into an elevator by private
security guards and at least one police officer.
It was unclear if the actor's remains were also aboard the flight.
Details of funeral arrangements have not been announced.
Local media report Ledger's family will hold a private ceremony, and either bury his remains or have them cremated and interred at the family's plot at
a cemetery in Perth, where his two grandparents lie.
According to British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, Ledger's Brokeback Mountain co-star Jake Gyllenhaal (and godfather of Ledger's daughter, Matilda, 2) is expected to fly to Perth, as well as Ledger's ex, Michelle Williams.
On Saturday, a heartbroken Williams — along with Tom Cruise, Sienna Miller and other people connected to CAA (the agency that represented Ledger) — attended a private ceremony Saturday in L.A. to honor the late actor.

But imagine this happening 2 someone inn ur family. my heart goes out 2 them all, especially, his daughter, who will never know what an amazing person her father was. RIP.

It is disgusting how ppl are disrespecting this fine actor, his family and his precious baby girl. No one is perfect and I don't see how re-hashing all his past indiscretions is going to do anyone good. Can't we celebrate that he was an amazing actor that we are all g oing to miss seeing him reach his peak in the actor world. Ironically enough I had always thought he was so much older because not only has he been around for a long time but he appears to have an old soul that was portrayed in many of his Movie.

I would venture to bet there were illegal drugs in his room and the house keeper or massage gal hid them before paramedics arrived. Why else would she have called MK three times? Somethings not right with that whole thing.

I am amazed at individuals who assume that an overdose of prescription drugs is intentional and therefore, the individual did not value his life. Have you ever taken any of the drugs they found in Heath's apartment? I have under doctor's orders. You are not the same while you are on some of those drugs. I have been on Ambien for a short while. I don't have to overdose to do unusual things- like being outside at 3:00 AM looking at the multiple UFO's flying over my house. (They were military helicopters and I live in a neighborhood where you do not go out and stand in your front yard at 3 AM!!) I have been prescribed Xanax for anxiety. The result? I became hysterical and suicidal. Thank God someone was there with me to take care of me. My guess is that if he did OD it was unintentional. He took more tablets hoping to get some sleep. Believe me, when you have been sleep deprived for whatever reason, you can make some bad decisions. Add to it that the drugs themselves can take away your reason, and you have a very dangerous situation. To those of you who think you know about overdosing, don't be so judgemental. And please don't make the conclusion that someone didn't value their life. They wouldn't be on the drug(s) to start with if they didn't. The vast majority of us take prescription drugs to improve our health, not to take away our lives.

I think it's interesting that Michelle's statement about Heath -- while very touching -- only focused on her daughter. She could've said 'he was the love of my life, my best friend, an extraordinary man' etc. but she didn't. His family's statements also only focused on Matilda.
There's more to this story than meets the eye. Heath was probably reckless in many ways that the public will n ever know about.

He died from a broken heart. Oh yeah and drugs.
More specifically, he couldn't sleep because he was anxious not knowing when he was going to get to see his daughter again. He kept taking pills to help him sleep but it was too much for his heart to take. So he had a heart attack brought on by drugs, which were being taken due to anxiety.

I am not too sure since I don't know them personally, but I don't think he did. From what I recall, I think she was with Michelle in Sweden while she was filming a movie and Heath was off shooting his film and that is why he missed her so much. I could be completely wrong, but thats all I know. May he rest in peace.

Um, yes, we all know it was an overdose. But was it intentional or not, by his own hand, and what drugs were OD'ed on-- prescriptions or illegals? I think those are the questions we all want answers to. And if we were all as perfect as you, there would never be ODs, diseases, fires, tsunamis, or any other tragedies in the world. And if you are so militant about drug users, then be fair--you must hate 90% of Hollywood. And if you do-- why the hell are you here spouting your inanities? I am really impressed by all the people around Heath-- his family, Michelle, Jake, and exes Naomi Watts and Heather Graham. Their public statements (or lack thereof) have shown great class and comportment, and I'm glad that they've not used this tragedy for themselves. Good on all of you-- you were true friends and family to Heath.
