New Details Behind the Grey's Anatomy Spinoff
Friday March 16, 2007

ABC

Now that the cast of Grey's Anatomy has officially exhausted almost every permutation of inter-sexing, it's only right that the show is spinning off and starting anew with a fresh, STD-free ensemble.

The pilot show will begin as an "enhanced" 2-hour episode that will also serve as the third season finale for Grey's Anatomy. The character Addison Montgomery-Shepherd will wrestle with the decision of leaving Seattle Grace, a scenario that will be triggered if ABC decides to pick up the spinoff for next season.

The new troupe, headlined by Grey's own Kate Walsh, so far includes: Taye Diggs (Day Break), Tim Daly (The Nine, Wings), Hector Elizondo (Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries) Paul Adelstein (Prison Break), Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars), Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy).

Daly's character is, naturally, being billed as "handsome, sincere, like a McDreamy."

The as yet untitled new show would be set in L.A., paving the way for celebrity guest stars a la Entourage, and also feature a female psychiatrist, a female fertility specialist and a plastic surgeon.

While the finale/pilot airs in May, ABC won't have to decide whether to pick up the new series for its fall schedule until later in the summer.
