It only took a brief run-in with Lauren Conrad (and most recently Heidi Montag) on The Hills for Spencer Pratt's younger sister Stephanie to become an overnight sensation. Then came the scrutiny: A report surfaced that she had been arrested last year for shoplifting.
Stephanie, 21, details the bust, as well as her struggles with addiction, in the latest issue Us Weekly, on newsstands now.
Stephanie says she started smoking pot at 15. "In a matter of months, I was on to other things," she adds. "I was a blackout drinker too.
"Once in history class, I was so high that when the teacher wasn't looking, I asked a girl to feel my heart. It was beating so fast I thought I was going to die."
Her brother couldn't deal with her problem.
"Spencer got mad because he was always defending me at school, saying I wasn't on drugs even when I was," Stephanie says. "He stopped talking to me for a bit."
It took a 2006 arrest — she had stolen $1,300 worth of merchandise from a Neiman Marcus in Honolulu, where she was working as a production assistant on ABC's Lost — for her to realize she needed help.
"When I was arrested, I was so humiliated," she tells Us. "Because of all the drugs that were in me, I passed out and had to go to hospital, where I called my parents.
"Getting arrested was a blessing," she adds. "I don't think I would have been able to get off drugs without that wake-up call."
Now sober, Stephanie thanks her family: "They never gave up on me."

First of all I was in stephanies first rehab with her, it was in houston tx, you can look it up. Second of all, knowing stephanie I can bet that she is not clean and sober... tell me who just hangs out at bars and clubs when they are? I wonder what kind of program she is really working... Secondly were her actions at the club very spiritual the 12 step program is a spiritual program and does not advocate ridculing people and def doesnt advocate going to the bar.this girl is an actress, she is manipulative and creul and just uses people to get what she wants, her brother is just like her, they prob shame the family. The only reason she is on tv has nothing to do with her and everything to do with her daddy. here's to you

Wow, this girl has a severe mental disorder of some sort. She does not talk in complete sentences, and sounds very like dumb and like, um...not all there. How sad, I was sincerely hopping that her role on the Hills was scripted, but now it seems that she really does act this lame in real life. Pityfull.

I laugh at her coming up and trying to start things with Lauren and that group. Since Lauren is over the whole Heidi situation. Maybe she will realize what a problem she is since now Heidi & Spencer are having a huge fight over the whole wedding.
