Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams have split, Us Weekly can confirm.
A source close to the couple tells Us that Heath and Michelle "quietly and amicably split a few weeks ago."
"The relationship had been rocky recently. They tried very hard to make it work but finally decided to separate. They just grew apart."
The couple, who live in Brooklyn, NY and have a daughter, Mathilda, 23 months, met on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2004.
"They have a beautiful daughter and they are both committed to being great parents."
Reps for the couple could not be reached.

ok i am heartbroken. they were my favorite hollywood couple. o and as for the people that think he's gay. I DONT THINK SO! i think they just grew apart because of the busy schedules. but they will work it out. i hope.

Wow. It still stuns me how cruel people can be. You negative, spiteful people leaving all these rude comments act like you know everything! It's sickening! You don't know these people or the circumstances under which they split. And everything else aside, they both obviously adore their daughter. How dare you intimate that they undertook parenthood lightly - how arrogant can you be?! Mind your own stinkin' buisness! I feel very badly for them both - they were a VERY cute couple. I wish them both the best!

Most Hollywood couples are fake. They fall in love on the set, have a child, then move on to the next movie set...I mean lover. It's very sad that there are children involved. Who knows, maybe Liev and Naomi will break up next and Heath and Naomi will get back together, and the Liev and Michelle can get together, the kids can be siblings, and they can be one big happy family. It's sick isn't it?

They weren't married. Just like so many other couples people seem to worship, they never bothered. I know they called each other "wife" and "husband", but marriage is more than a title. It involves the total commitment of both and obviously neither of these people were able to do that. And to bring a child into the world when you're not able to say "I do"? People need to get their priorities straight. Afraid of commitment but not afraid to bring a child into a home that isn't solid is so messed up.
