During a Monday, April 20 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Parsons, 53, was asked what he thought was the “most ridiculous” plot line on the beloved sitcom.

“They were all rather silly, right?” Parsons reflected. “I mean, we went to space.”

Parsons, who played Sheldon Cooper on the series for 12 years, was referring to season five and six of the Big Bang Theory when Simon Helberg’s character, Howard Wolowitz, trained to become an astronaut. Only Howard went to space as he left his friends and loved ones behind for a mission to the International Space Station. Real-life astronaut Mike Massimino even made a cameo.

Earlier this year, the show’s production designer John Shaffner revealed how they were able to make it look like Helberg was floating in space while staying firmly on the ground.

“It was done by supporting the people from underneath,” Shaffner told TV Line in March. “There was a very long, sort of skinny platform that a person could lie on, and it would almost look like they were swimming through in weightlessness. They studied and really did a remarkable job with acting the weightlessness.”

The Big Bang Theory ran for 12 seasons as the series followed a group of friends, which included multiple scientists, as they navigated work, friendships and relationships. In addition to Parsons and Helberg, the show starred Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Mayim Bialik, Kunal Nayyar and Melissa Rauch.

Parsons’ character was beloved by fans and inspired the spinoff series, Young Sheldon, which starred Iain Armitage. Young Sheldon was also a success and inspired an additional show titled Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.

While Sheldon Cooper is loved by many, Parsons confessed he doesn’t see himself reprising the role anytime soon for any potential revival.

“I can’t say I miss him,” Parsons said of his iconic character during a recent appearance on The View. “There’s a lot about his qualities, and just who he was, that I still carry with me. And I certainly still get so much reaction to it.”

Parsons shared similar sentiments about a reboot two years ago during an interview with Chris Wallace.

“As we sit here now, no. But I also never say never to anything, because life just changes so much,” Parsons said in 2024. “It was so special as what it was, as what it is, and they call it lightning in a bottle for a reason. You can be certain it wouldn’t be that. And so, why would we be doing it?”

“Oh, I would love to do so,” Streep, 76, said during a Monday, April 20, appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, when asked when she might appear on Broadway. “I was talking with Marty Short about that. We were thinking that would be fun to do.”

When Andy Cohen clarified, “to do something together?” Streep replied, “Yeah.”

Streep and Short, 76, have costarred on Only Murders in the Building since she joined the cast for season 3 as his love interest. The pair’s onscreen chemistry sparked romance rumors, which have since been denied by Short.

“We’re not a couple. We are just very close friends,” Short stated during an appearance on the “Club Random with Bill Maher” podcast in January 2024.

One year later, Short admitted that he felt nervous about sharing the screen with Streep.

“I remember the first day working with Meryl and driving to the studio and thinking, ‘I’m nervous today,’” Short said during a 2025 appearance on Conan O’Brien’s podcast. “I [hadn’t] been nervous going to the set for a long time.”

“The first scene we shot in Only Murders was a scene where we’re at the piano and we’re, kind of, flirting a little bit,” Short recalled at the time. “The first shot set-up is over her to me, so pressure’s on me and then we break down so that they can reverse the cameras and do her side. We go into [the] holding area and she just says, ‘OK, nerves to half.’ I go, ‘Wait a second, I was nervous. You can’t be nervous.’”

“I’ve been asked to be on Housewives,” Garth said before clarifying that she was asked to join “the Beverly Hills one.”

“How the hell would you fit in there?” Hirsch, 37, asked, to which Garth responded, “I don’t know. That’s why I said no.”

“I was like, ‘I’m the furthest thing from a desperate housewife,’” the What I Like About You alum told McCarthy and her 90210 costar Tori Spelling. “Is it Desperate Housewives?”

After clarifying that Garth was talking about RHOBH, Spelling, 52, expressed disappointment that she wasn’t invited to be on the Bravo reality show.

Spelling, meanwhile, made her reality TV debut alongside now ex-husband Dean McDermott on Oxygen’s Tori & Dean Inn Love, which was later renamed Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood. The pair also starred on Lifetime’s True Tori.

What Happened in ‘The Boys’ Season 5, Episode 3?

Soldier Boy survived the virus the Boys used against him, but he became even more suspicious of his son, Homelander. Although Homelander swore up and down that he didn’t set up Soldier Boy to die, the former scoffed at his child even as he accepted a place among The Seven. Sister Sage also determined that the key to Soldier Boy’s survival was the Compound V1 in his veins, which gave him a form of immortality. Homelander had a religious vision of the late Madelyn Stillwell, who told him that getting VI for himself is his destiny.

Meanwhile, the Boys began their own search for Compound V1. The entire group, minus Butcher, located ex-Vought CEO Stan Edgar, who was hiding out in a vault with his adoptive granddaughter, Zoe Neuman, and Maverick, the son of Tanslucent, the first Supe that Hughie ever killed. Out of guilt, Hughie befriended Maverick and tried to steer him away from vengeance.

Zoe clandestinely summoned her boyfriend, Ryan Butcher, and attempted to get him to lure Butcher into a trap. After Ryan refused, Zoe stowed away with Frenchie and Kimiko back to the Boys’ base, where she found her father, Sameer. After she told Sameer that Butcher killed her mother, Victoria Neuman, Frenchie and Kimiko caught them just as her dad destroyed the Supe-killing virus. However, Kimiko allowed Zoe and Sameer to flee without further incident.

Back at the vault, The Deep, Black Noir, Cindy and Dogknott tracked down Edgar. When Maverick attempted to sneak up on the attackers, Deep told him that Hughie had killed his father. Feeling betrayed, Maverick allowed the group into the vault. Cindy accidentally killed Maverick while trying to kill Hughie, and Starlight murdered her in revenge before realizing the truth. Edgar betrayed the Boys, only to be captured by the Deep. The rest of the Boys escaped, but Starlight flew off alone after she was disturbed by her own actions.

As this situation played out, Ryan reconnected with Butcher, who grimly convinced him to use the virus to kill Homelander, Butcher and even himself for the sake of the world. When Butcher and Ryan discovered the virus was destroyed, the latter confronted Homelander, who nearly beat him to death. Butcher caught up with the badly injured Ryan while Homelander held Edgar’s fate in his hands.

When asked whether Pomers, 37, and Holleman, 31, would make an appearance on Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman‘s hit NBC series Happy’s Place, Garcia Swisher, 46, told People on Monday, April 20, “I have no control over this.”

The actress expressed gratitude for getting an invite herself earlier this month.

“I was just happy to be able to do it and so excited,” she noted. “I think it would be really fun for everyone to get their shot, but there’s a lot of moving parts to all of it … I was just really grateful to get my opportunity.”

‘Reba’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

Reba, which aired from 2001 to 2007, followed a single mom who had to start over after her husband, Brock (Chris Rich), left her for his dental hygienist, Barbra Jean (Peterman).

Reba (McEntire) faced a multitude of obstacles while raising her three kids — including her pregnant teen daughter (Garcia Swisher) and her boyfriend (Steve Howey). Pomers and Holleman were also prominent cast members on the show but took a step back from the spotlight in the years since Reba ended.

Many Reba alums have been able to join McEntire, 71, and Peterman, 54, on their new show two decades after Reba. Rich’s episode in February 2025 held extra significance after he spent years away from acting following a massive stroke.

“After my stroke and having a brain injury, it is like I got hit with an atomic bomb. So it all gets traumatized, and it is a hard reset,” he exclusively told Us Weekly at the time. “After I finally got out of the hospital, I was moving around again. Then I threw a bunch of blood clots and ended up in the hospital with lung embolisms and debris on my heart. After surviving all of that crap, I’m feeling really, really good.”

Rich continued: “I lost 50 pounds since the last time I was a regular on television. I just don’t have much of an appetite anymore. But I’m not disappointed by losing weight.”

The 72-year-old actor was hopeful about his return to Hollywood, adding, “It’s great to be able to be a disabled person and play a disabled person. McEntire previously gushed over reuniting with Rich on Happy’s Place.

“To bring Chris back in [after Reba], that was the most special to the producers — Kevin Abbott and Mindy Schultheis and Michael Hanel. They were all from the Reba sitcom,” McEntire quipped to Us in May 2025.

McEntire recalled how important it was for them to work together again, noting that “it really made a difference” to Rich.

“He got to come back to the work that he loved so much around the people that he loves so much. And we all love him,” she said. “It’s been a huge blessing for all of us.”

‘Poor Things’ (2023)

In a retrofuturist version of Victorian London, mad scientist Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe) brings back to life the body of a pregnant woman who killed herself, replacing her brain with that of her fetus and naming her Bella Baxter (Stone). But as the weeks pass and Bella’s vocabulary and sense of self only improve, she grows less pliable and more independent, seeking escape from the confines of her guardian. After Baxter’s medical student, Max (Ramy Youssef), proposes to Bella, she runs away with a lawyer (Mark Ruffalo) and sets off on a cross-continental adventure.

Poor Things is both strange and wonderful; an assured blend of science fiction, fantasy and dark comedy that serves as a true tour de force acting showcase for Stone, who, perhaps unsurprisingly, took home Oscar gold for her performance back in 2024. The film has a gorgeous steampunk aesthetic and truly virtuoso costuming by way of Holly Waddington. In addition to being a fun and funny visual feast, Poor Things also succeeds as a nuanced exploration of sexual liberation and societal norms.

‘Ricky Stanicky’ (2024)

Childhood best friends Dean (Zac Efron), Wes (Jermaine Fowler) and JT (Andrew Santino) created an imaginary friend named Ricky Stanicky when they were kids to have an alibi for getting out of trouble. Twenty years on, and the guys are still using Ricky as a scapegoat to get out of various professional and personal obligations. But when their partners demand to finally meet the elusive Ricky, the trio decides to hire a low-rent actor named Rod Rimestead (John Cena) to pose as him. But when Rod becomes too instantly beloved as Ricky, he takes his method acting a bit too far, resulting in hilarious consequences for the guys who created him.

Ricky Stanicky is carried by a genuinely hilarious premise and a fantastic comedic performance from Cena, whose typical over-eagerness to be funny in other comedy roles ends up translating beautifully to the innately desperate Rod. While the movie might be pushing it a little with a runtime nearing two hours, Cena’s presence consistently makes Ricky Stanicky a delight to behold. The film isn’t some awards masterpiece, but it’s got what you want out of a great comedy, with plenty of lines and gags that will make you laugh out loud.

‘Event Horizon’ (1997)

In the year 2047, a group of astronauts is sent on a rescue mission to recover a lost spaceship known as the Event Horizon, which had gone missing seven years prior, before suddenly reappearing in orbit around the planet Neptune. Among the Lewis and Clark rescue craft are Captain Miller (Laurence Fishburne), designer of the Event Horizon, Dr. Weir (Sam Neill), medical doctor D.J. (Jason Isaacs) and Lieutenant Starck (Joely Richardson). While investigating the derelict ship, they discover the entire crew has mysteriously perished. What they don’t yet know is that the Event Horizon’s crew unleashed a great evil that still lurks on board.

“What if a spaceship managed to fold spacetime and travel to Hell?” is a fantastic premise for a sci-fi horror movie; it’s just a shame that studio interference forced director Paul W.S. Anderson to massacre his original, 130-minute cut down to a scant 96 minutes. (Unfortunately, the original footage has been lost or destroyed.)

Though the film was a commercial and critical failure, it gained cult classic status on home video and has influenced countless sci-fi and horror movies since. Event Horizon is a chilling, atmospheric thrill ride with unforgettable imagery and standout performances from Neill and Fishburne.

‘Her Smell’ (2018)

Self-destructive rock musician Becky Something (Elisabeth Moss) helps to bring her band, Something She, into the spotlight with her immense talent, but that rise to fame is quickly dashed by Becky’s own behavior. Her Smell is told in five separate scenes from different periods of Becky’s life, highlighting her fraught relationships with her bandmates, her family, her ex-husband and her spiral to the bottom — from which perhaps she can finally find redemption.

Alex Ross Perry‘s stressful yet captivating drama is a tour-de-force showcase for Moss, who commands the challenging role with unshakeable verve and total commitment to the character. Her Smell brings the toxic rock-and-roll lifestyle away from the glitz and glamor and into the ugly reality through the sharp script written by Perry. The movie co-stars Dan Stevens, Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson.

‘Down by Law’ (1986)

In New Orleans, three disparate men converge in a jail cell: Jack (John Lurie), a dispassionate pimp, Zack (Tom Waits), a listless disc jockey and Roberto (Roberto Benigni), a goofy Italian tourist arrested for a gambling dispute turned violent. Zack and Jack have both been set up for crimes they haven’t committed, and it’s Robert who finds a way for the three of them to escape from jail. The men, constantly at odds with one another, set out to evade capture and leave the state.

Netflix cut ties with Boots two months after the show premiered. Based on Greg Cope White‘s memoir, the scripted series followed Cameron (Miles Heizer) as he joined the U.S. Marine Corps alongside his best friend Ray (Liam Oh) during the 1990s, the era of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy regarding LGBTQ+ service members.

Cameron was forced to hide his sexuality while trying to make it through boot camp alongside Slovacek (Kieron Moore), Hicks (Angus O’Brien), Nash (Dominic Goodman), John (Blake Burt), Cody (Brandon Tyler Moore) and Ochoa (Johnathan Nieves).

Before being canceled, Boots found success at the network — doubling its weekly audience and rising to No. 2 on Netflix’s TV charts.

Netflix Cancels Several Shows After Only 1 Season

Prime Video’s Hotel Costiera was another major TV loss. The show, which premiered in September 2025, followed a former Marine Daniel (Jesse Williams), who worked as a fixer at a luxury hotel while also tasked with finding the owner’s daughter.

“I lost 13 pounds shooting this show and I was eating pasta and bread all the time,” Williams exclusively told Us Weekly at the time. “I hear that story time and time again. People come here or Europeans go to America and they immediately get sick and they’re eating organic [food in the United States]. It’s a different world. So I was lucky in that respect here.”

He continued: “I started thinking I was going to have to be super rigorous. But I think exhaustion [from filming] helped me not put on many [pounds]. But also the sad truth is it’s not America. So it’s real ingredients and it doesn’t bloat or inflame you so much.”

Hotel Costiera also allowed Williams to fully immerse himself in Italian culture.

“Language is a big barrier. I learned a little bit of it. But being there a few months in, I was able to get through the first two-thirds of a conversation. And I was able to surprise people in being able to get in and out of expressions and conversations,” he shared with Us. “Moving through Rome — and especially Naples — which I really grew to love, that is a place where it gives you back the love that you give and the respect that you give.”

Williams recalled when he felt more like a local, saying, “There were absolutely moments in restaurants where I am coming across people who know my face and I’ve made some impact on them. But then they hear me talk to them in Italian, which throws them off completely. They embraced me in that way. So I had a really nice welcome.”

The 9-1-1 spinoff introduced Williams-Paisley, 54, as emergency dispatcher Cammie, who was still mourning the loss of her late husband. The actress was recently asked whether Paisley, 53, “got a little jealous” of her onscreen marriage.

“I have these emotional scenes because my character’s husband died a few years ago, and so I really have to create a whole backstory for myself, ’cause I don’t wanna imagine my own family or anything like that,” she told Good Morning America. “I had an acting teacher who taught me to create an imaginary world that you really believe is there.”

Williams-Paisley continued: “So, you know, we’re watching the show, and Brad’s like, ‘Man, what were you thinking about?’ And I’m like, ‘I was thinking about [my onscreen husband] Mark.’ He’s like, ‘Who’s Mark?’ And I’m like, ‘Mark’s perfect.’ He goes, ‘What the heck?'”

The pups mark the second litter for Buttercup, who also delivered two pups in October. The father of both litters is Goomba, the resident male capybara at the southern New Jersey zoo.

The births bring even more activity to an already bustling capybara habitat at the zoo.

Animal keepers and veterinary staff are monitoring Buttercup and her new pups closely. Because of that care, visitors should be aware that the mother and her young are sometimes taken off exhibit to limit their exposure to crowds. Those hoping to catch a glimpse of the pups can look for them periodically from the bridge at the capybara habitat.

For visitors unfamiliar with these charming creatures, capybaras hold a notable distinction in the animal kingdom — they are the largest rodent species in the world, according to species facts shared by the county.

Native to South America, capybaras are semi-aquatic rodents typically found near lakes, swamps and rivers. Adults typically weigh between 75 and 150 pounds, with females slightly heavier than males. They are highly social animals that live in groups, which makes the growing family at Cape May a fitting reflection of their natural behavior.

How the Capybara Pups Will Grow

Despite their eventual hefty size, capybara pups hit the ground running — quite literally. The young are able to walk within hours of birth, giving them an early start on exploring their surroundings.

Their diet develops quickly as well. Pups begin eating grass at approximately one week old, though they continue nursing for about 16 weeks as they grow. Visitors who return to the zoo over the coming months will be able to watch the pups develop and become more active members of the habitat’s capybara group.

In Us Weekly‘s exclusive clip from the Tuesday, April 21, episode of Fox’s Bear Grylls Is Running Wild, McConaughey, 56, agrees to join Grylls for a surprising meal. Grylls, 51, tells McConaughey that the reindeer testicles “improved with cooking” before the actor tried a piece of the meat.

“Can I have another piece, please? That is a hell of a lot better than I thought it would be,” McConaughey says before making a joke about Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

McConaughey revealed he turned down a multimillion-dollar movie for more serious work.

“It was a good action comedy. It came with an $8 million offer. I said, ‘No, thank you,’” he said. “They came back with a $10 million offer. I said, ‘No, thank you.’ They came back with a $12 million offer. I said, ‘No, thank you.’ They came back with a $14.5 million offer. I said, ‘Let me read that again.’”

During the Monday, April 20, episode of the ABC show, host Ryan Seacrest spoke with contestant Brooks Rosser after he performed Miley Cyrus‘ song “The Climb” from 2009’s Hannah Montana: The Movie.

She continued: “You want them to pay attention to those things going forward. They’re obviously talented or they wouldn’t be here right now.”

In his exhaustive new biography of the band, journalist Bob Spitz goes deep on the group’s biggest misadventures, including a time when frontman Mick Jagger went a little too far with Keith Richards’ girlfriend. The Rolling Stones: The Biography, out Tuesday, April 21, recounts an incident where Jagger, now 82, was filming a movie with Anita Pallenberg, who dated Richards, also 82, from 1967 to 1980.

In 1968, Jagger was cast in the film Performance opposite Pallenberg. Jagger’s character, Turner, was in a three-way relationship with Pallenberg’s Pherber and Michèle Breton’s Lucy.

“There were lots of drugs on the set fueling the debauchery, including a frisky, communal bathtub scene with Mick, Anita and Michèle,” writes Spitz, who goes on to quote Rolling Stones cofounder Ian Stewart.

According to Stewart, Jagger and Pallenberg engaged in actual intercourse while filming their love scene.

“When the big sex scene of the movie was filmed, instead of simulating sex [Mick and Anita] really got into each other,” Stewart alleged, per Spitz. “And although what wound up in the picture was a lot of vague, tumbling bodies in the sheets, nothing explicit, there was a lot of very explicit footage [taken by Anita on her handheld movie camera] of Mick and Anita really screwing — steamy, lusty stuff that was edited into a separate X-rated short feature.”

While the alleged real sex never made it into the film’s final cut, Warner Bros. executives were still shocked by what they saw in the daily footage.

“After viewing the bathtub scene, they shut down production for a week to decide whether or not to scrap the entire picture,” Spitz writes, noting that Performance was shelved until 1970.

Richards, meanwhile, wasn’t happy about whatever transpired between Pallenberg and Jagger.

“Things grew itchy between Anita and Keith,” Spitz notes, adding that Pallenberg herself said, “Keith wasn’t pleased.”

In his own 2010 autobiography, Life, Richards said he’s “not that jealous kind of guy,” but Spitz believes that the rocker “poured his heart” into the song “You Got the Silver,” which appeared on the band’s 1969 album, Let It Bleed.

Pallenberg, for her part, echoed Stewart’s story in her journals, which were explored in the 2024 documentary Catching Fire: The Story of Anita Pallenberg. (The doc was released seven years after she died in 2017 at age 75.)

“Mick had never done a movie before, and he liked my confidence, and we were spending more time together. ‘Terriers’ (2010)

FX bungled the marketing for Terriers by sticking it with a terrible name that didn’t even have much to do with the series itself. There is a bulldog on the show, but this isn’t a series about canines. Instead, it’s one of the great beach noir shows of all time that follows a pair of unlicensed private investigators: Former cop Hank Dolworth (Donal Logue), and his best friend/ex-con, Britt Pollack (Michael Raymond-James).

The duo is barely getting by in Ocean Beach when they stumble across a very plausible conspiracy, especially if you’ve ever lived in San Diego. There are some case-of-the-week stories, but the overall arc of the entire season is jaw-dropping. Even the relationships between Hank and his ex-wife, Gretchen Dolworth (Kimberly Quinn), and Britt and his girlfriend, Katie Nichols (Laura Allen), play major parts in the outcome. There’s never going to be a season 2, but this show is unforgettable for everyone who embraced it the first time.

‘Lights Out’ (2011)

Lights Out might remind you a lot of Rocky, but it goes to even darker places with former world champion Patrick “Lights” Leary (Holt McCallany). Lights’ fighting days are over at the beginning of the series, but his family’s finances are in such bad shape that he’s drawn back into the life. His wife, Theresa Leary (Catherine McCormack), and their daughters would freak out even more if they realized that he’s already suffering from the early stages of CTE.

McCallany was a revelation as Lights, and he was surrounded by strong performers, including Pablo Schreiber as his brother, Johnny Leary, and Stacy Keach as their father, Robert “Pops” Leary. The late Reg E. Cathey gave a devilishly good turn as boxing promoter Barry K. Word, while Billy Brown was the perfect foil for Lights as world champion Richard “Death Row” Reynolds. There were only 13 episodes, but the unfolding story built to a fantastic finale that was probably meant to set up season 2. But even as a standalone season, this show was incredible.

‘The Leftovers’ (2014 – 2017)

Anyone who expected The Leftovers to be the second coming of Lost was probably disappointed. Series co-creator Damon Lindelof was pretty clear ahead of time that this adaptation of Tom Perrotta‘s novel wasn’t about the Rapture or the mysterious fate of everyone who vanished. It’s about the people who were left behind with terrible emotional wounds that may never heal.

Margaret Qualley and Carrie Coon both became much bigger stars after their turns as Jill Garvey and Nora Durst, respectively. But a good deal of the show centered on Jill’s father and Nora’s lover, police chief Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux). It was Kevin’s job to hold his town together, even as his own sanity came into question. The funny thing about this show is that it did finally tell the audience what happened — you just have to choose whether or not you believe it.

‘Rectify’ (2013 – 2016)

If Rectify had been on any channel or streamer other than Sundance Channel, then it probably would have had a greater chance at breaking out. Instead, it was doomed to be a critical hit on a cable channel that not everyone watched. The series followed Daniel Holden (Aden Young) and his family following the former’s release from prison after nearly two decades behind bars. His sister, Amantha Holden (Abigail Spencer), fought to get Daniel released, but not everyone is convinced that he’s innocent of murdering his girlfriend. Especially not the people living in their small town.

Daniel’s attempts to find a path forward intersect with the messy relationships his family has with each other, including his stepbrother, Ted “Teddy” Talbot Jr. (Clayne Crawford), who came into the Holdens’ family when his father married Daniel’s mother, Janet Talbot (J. Smith-Cameron). This was a very slow-burn series that may have been too slow for some, but there’s something undeniably compelling about these characters and their lives.

When Nicky’s (Levy) sister, Morgan (Taylor Ortega), steals a necklace from a gift shop, she has no idea that the store is run by a Turkish gangster named Yusuf (Boron Kazum). But the two wayward, middle-class adults certainly uncover Yusuf’s dangerous background when he kidnaps both of them and threatens them at gunpoint, blackmailing them into carrying out illicit errands as penance for Morgan’s act of petty theft. Thus, Morgan’s minor criminal act turns into the siblings committing a series of major ones, as the two white-bread suburbanites are thrust into the world of organized crime.

Big Mistakes marks Levy’s return to scripted TV following the conclusion of the hit Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek, and while both feature similar fish-out-of-water premises, Big Mistakes is an entirely different wheelhouse. The series is totally binge-worthy with an addictive narrative that plays out across the eight-episode arc, with humor that really hits, family drama that’s affecting and an extremely compelling crime narrative. The excellent cast also features Laurie Metcalf as Nicky and Morgan’s mother.

‘Killing Eve’ (2018-2022)

This fantastic spy thriller series from Phoebe Waller-Bridge and, later, Emerald Fennell, stars Sandra Oh as MI5 agent Eve Polastri, whose dissatisfaction with her job leads her to make a brash mistake that gets her fired. However, her interest in pursuing female assassins leads her to join an underground MI6 division dedicated to tracking Villanelle (Jodie Comer): a psychopathic international assassin who consistently evades capture. But when Eve and Villanelle eventually encounter one another, they find themselves locked in a game of cat-and-mouse that draws both women closer to one another in unexpected ways.

Killing Eve does an excellent job at subverting tropes of spy thrillers and hinging on truly electric chemistry between Comer and Oh. Oh is thrilling in her role portraying the unconventional and messy Eve, while Comer is an utterly magnetic “femme fatale” type of villainous psychopath. The mutual obsession between these disparate parties creates a compelling dynamic, and the sharp writing, genuinely funny dark humor and high production values (from lush cinematography to meticulous costuming) work together to create an unforgettable and dynamic series.

‘Veronica Mars’ (2004-2007)

Popular high school student Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell) has the perfect life and the perfect boyfriend, but it all falls apart following the tragic murder of her best friend Lilly Kane (Amanda Seyfried), the downfall of her respected sheriff father and the abandonment of her mother (Corinne Bohrer). In the aftermath of both Veronica and her father (Enrico Colantoni) being ousted by their community, they open up their own private investigation agency, where Veronica works part-time solving crimes around town.

Though Veronica Mars only lasted for a criminally short three seasons, the series has endured as a cult hit with a passionate fanbase. The show boasts a smart blend of teen drama and crime noir, and Bell commands the show with her magnetic breakout performance. Veronica is a strong female character given rich character development, but the supporting characters are terrific too, creating a show with textured, dense world-building. While the revival season leaves something to be desired, the first run of Veronica Mars is some of the best television ever.

‘How to Get to Heaven from Belfast’ (2026)

After the death of their estranged group member, three close childhood friends reunite at the wake. Saoirse (Roisin Gallagher), Robyn (Sinéad Keenan) and Dara (Caoilfhionn Dunne) travel back home to County Donegal in northwest Ireland to pay respects for their fallen comrade, but when they arrive, they are met with an unsettling discovery at the wake. This leads them to experience a series of strange events that compel them to stay together in their hometown for longer than anticipated, as they investigate the bizarre circumstances surrounding their friend’s mysterious death.

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast comes from the creatives behind Netflix’s beloved comedy Derry Girls, and while Belfast does have some sharp humor, it’s a bit darker than the popular Troubles-set sitcom. Ultimately, series creator Lisa McGee knocks it out of the park yet again, crafting a unique, genre-blending mystery show that is anchored by compelling chemistry between the lead actors, weighty themes, strong emotions and an addictive story that you won’t want to stop watching once you start.

‘Unfamiliar’ (2026)

Meret (Susanne Wolff) and Simon Schäfer (Felix Kramer) are former German spies who have settled down in Berlin, raising their teenage daughter Nina (Maja Bons) while running a restaurant and a safe house together. On the night of their daughter’s sixteenth birthday, a man who’s been attacked requests shelter at their safe house. But the man isn’t all he appears to be, and he bears knowledge of a disastrous covert operation from years ago, the consequences of which the Schäfers have been desperately trying to run from. Suddenly, all their skeletons are threatened to be revealed.

This German espionage thriller has proven to be a surprise hit for Netflix, having only recently debuted and already becoming one of the streamer’s most popular shows. Viewers can’t get enough of Unfamiliar’s riveting twists and turns while also being a smartly written narrative with high-stakes drama, complex, nuanced characters and an emotional grounding that frees it from some of the familiar tropes of spy stories. The fast pace and scant six-episode arc create a truly binge-worthy experience full of surprises you won’t expect.

‘His and Hers’ (2025)

Former news anchor Anna (Tessa Thompson) purposefully spends her days alone and isolated, until she hears about a murder in her hometown of Dahlonega, Georgia. Finding herself suddenly reinvigorated in her career, Anna travels to Dahlonega to investigate, where she is forced to contend with her estranged husband, Jack Harper (Jon Bernthal), who just happens to be assigned to the case. Having been drawn to the killing partly out of curiosity, partly because of loose ends left from her past, Anna searches for the truth while repeatedly butting heads with Jack, who is increasingly suspicious of Anna’s true motives.

This gripping, fast-paced murder-mystery wouldn’t be quite what it is without two compelling performances from Bernthal and Thompson, who really inject some complex character nuance and emotional tension into an already bingeable narrative. Though there are aspects of His & Hers that might strain plausibility, it only adds to the entertaining, crime pulp intrigue of this taut, tight thriller.

‘The Following’ (2013 – 2015)

Over a decade ago, Kevin Bacon was enticed to join his first network TV series, The Following, a mystery thriller with the Tremors actor as former FBI agent Ryan Hardy. After catching a serial killer named Joe Carroll (James Purefoy), Ryan left his job behind and even briefly romanced Carroll’s ex-wife, Claire Matthews (Natalie Zea). The only thing that could bring Ryan out of retirement is the escape of Joe Carroll.

In his time behind bars, Joe has amassed a large following of devoted maniacs who are willing to kill for him and die for him if necessary. It’s a brand new game with Joe as the ringleader, and nearly anyone in Ryan or Claire’s life could be one of the followers hiding in plain sight until it’s time to strike at their enemies.

‘Good Cop/Bad Cop’ (2025)

Good Cop/Bad Cop takes a more comedic approach to the crime and mystery genres, but there are still dramatic stakes and murder cases to investigate. The series is set in Eden Vale, a small town that Chief of Police Hank Hickman (Clancy Brown) has kept relatively crime-free for years. But times are changing and Hickman’s daughter, Detective Lou Hickman (Leighton Meester), badly needs some backup.

Will Malart be able to find redemption and catch the killer?

City of Shadows prioritizes pacing and atmosphere over shock and gore, and while there are still some twists and turns to look forward to, the show is more interested in showcasing solid storytelling and the fantastic chemistry between its two leads. For crime drama fans who could use less blood and guts and more character drama and moody tension, City of Shadows is likely to be the perfect fit for you.

“Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing ended with Sully leaving for Ireland, beginning a new chapter in his life. Season 4 picks up the next day, with Sully still overseas,” Roth shared with Us. “While he isn’t physically present in this season, the character remains an important part of the world with the potential to be included in future seasons should that align with the ongoing creative.”

Patterson later hinted at what caused his surprising departure, writing via Instagram, “The creative differences were becoming untenable and I just sadly realized that the show was not something that I could agree to continue.”

Patterson clarified it wasn’t his choice to leave Sullivan’s Crossing.

“It’s unfortunate that it is now being implied that they moved on from me/Sully when the fact is the complete opposite, and those who sadly already have spoken out are also fully aware of this fact, and yet chose to say otherwise,” he continued. “I was not intending to make any statement but the fans of the books and the show deserve to know the truth as I have always been respectful of those who support this industry by watching and loving these characters we are so dang lucky and blessed to portray and bring to life.”

Kohan, 32, meanwhile, broke her silence that same month.

“[My character Maggie’s] whole world at the beginning of the [fourth] season is not what she anticipated,” Kohan told Yahoo Canada in March. “[Maggie is] just kind of settled in with Cal — and then it’s really thrust on her that now, you’re taking over the Crossing, and you are fully involved, while the rest of your life is kind of thrown up in the air again.”

The actress pointed out that “part of her support system is now gone too” while referring to Maggie’s dad, Sully, being out of the picture when the new season begins.
