EXCLUSIVE: Courtney Thorne-Smith Has Baby Boy

 Scott Gries/Getty Images Actress Courtney Thorne-Smith and husband Roger Fishman welcomed their first child, a boy named Jacob Emerson, Smith's rep confirms to Usmagazine.com exclusively. "Mother and father are thrilled," Smith's rep tells Us. "And the baby is healthy." Smith gave birth Friday at L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where Nicole Richie was also in labor. (Comedian David Alan Grier and his wife also welcomed a girl the same day.) Smith, 40, has been married to Fishman for just over a year. They met on an airplane in 2004. "It's such an amazing moment for both of us," Smith has said of her pregnancy. "We both sort of had to say, I don't know if this is going to happen for me. The fact it's happening is just astounding!" The actress is known for her role on According to Jim and past parts on Melrose Place and Ally McBeal.

To the person who says there is no scientific evidence that babies born to older women are unhealthy......Females are born with all the eggs they will ever have already in their ovaries. That means that the older a woman is, the older her egg is. That in itself increases the risk for a child to be born with some sort of defect, whether it be physical or emotional. That IS a scientific fact. However, women today take better care of themselves and have better nutrition than our mothers and grandmothers. That will improve the chance of having a healthy baby.

Why does everyone take everything soooo serious and get uptight with everyone elses opinions? We all have a right to them. My oldest child's name is Jacob and I had him when I was 20 and the next child at 22. I'm now 47 and my children are grown and having children of their own. This worked for me. If my life had been different maybe I would have waited. But........it doesn't matter it worked for me. So let it go and be happy for the couple. Life is too short to worry about what every one else is doing.

I remember her as Allison Parker on Melrose Place and Georgia Thomas on Ally McBeal. I never watched According to Jim because I can't stand James Belushi. I have always liked Courtney because she is down to earth person who doesn't toot her own horn about her success, and is a wonderful actress. She has had trouble in the relationship area with romance with costar Andrew Shue and a short marriage to Andrew Conrad. I do hope and pray that this marriage to Roger Fishman and this new baby Jacob bring her the happiness she has always wanted. Congratulations Courtney!

I personally am a fan of Courtney THorne-Smith and I have seen her in many programs on TV for years. I am very happy for her and her husband. Who are any of you to say anything wrong about if or when someone famous or not, decides to have a baby. As any decent human being knows you don't always know when you are going to meet that right person to marry and start a family with. As long as they are healthy and happy and can provide a good stable and loving home go for it. For those of you who don't know who she is, DON"T watch or read info about her. Look at Brittany Spears she is only 25 yrs. old and look what kind of a mother she is.

You can raise children and many if you chose, if you know how to budget. We are a middle class family. My children do dance classes and sports. To Sue who is 29 with seven kids. You are insane. People are having too many kids, the world is so over populated. Noone has the guts to admit that many of the problems including global warming and because there are too many people in the world. Global warming will increase as there are so many people using so many resources, and it's only ging to get worse as developing countries want the same style life that everyone else has. Get your tubes tied or for gods sake use a condom. How do you think you can support 7 kids? To whoever said not many children born to older parents are healthy, obviously isn't educated or has been living under a rock. Brooke Shields, Geena Davis, Marcia Cross, and Holly Hunter have all had babies in their forties, and all the babies have been perfectly healthy. Adrienne Barbeau, (the actress on Maude) gave birth to healthy twins at 51. It is seeming to be a trend with people actually getting their finances set & becoming mature before beinging children into the world. I applaude that. I would much rather see a mature woman have a baby she adores and has waited for than 12-18 year old that are popping them out & taking no responsibility for them, or having ABORTIONS!!!

I think what a lot of you don't realize when women are older than age 35 a lot of them turn to IN Vitro Fertilization to assist with getting pregnant. And a majority of these women use DONOR eggs.These eggs are usually donated by younger women in their 20's. So yes a woman might be 40 having a child ( whether its her egg or a donor egg) there still is a TON of genetic testing that can be done to make sure the baby is healthy and has no chromosomal defects. There is a risk actually at any age. The risk of having chromosomal isses under age 20 is the same as over 35! Bet a lot of you didn't know that. So whatever. Congrats to Courtney. She was HOT pregnant and a majority of this country is so fat you can't even tell when they are pregnant. So stop being haters and be happy for them.

Some of us aren't as lucky as others- you don't know the reasons behind having a child later in life. In my case, I have been trying since the age of 26, and at age 45, I am still trying. So, ease up on the older parent thing- there are many different reasons why we choose to wait or why we have children later in life. Keep your opinions to yourself! And be glad that you are able to have children without any difficulties- it is not an easy thing to have to deal with!

Let me tell you all something this world complains when women have kids to young or too old the only one who could judge us is GOD not any one else if u are jelous keep it to your self and at least say congrats to the happy parents not stupid remarks. Any way Gongrats on your new angel and may your life be blessed with the joy that comes with every that comes with this package. I have 7 kids and I am only 29. I have six girls and one boy two stepkids and every day I have spent with them has been more then a blessing it has been a joyful life. Enjoy that baby because from a blink of an eye they grow to fast.

To Anonymous who is now 36: Huh???? Who is selfish again? Without your "old" folks, you won't be here in this world venting... If my assumption that you are the primary caregiver is correct and you are taking good care of your mom who has Alzheimer's (aka old timers), then it is a big accomplishment. Otherwise, that's another story... I have relatives who had children while young but still messed up. I am surprised to hear that some of you think Women should not have babies at 40 years old. There are so many reasons why it is important to wait to have a baby. Finances, a secure marriage, wiser, stable, education. For some waiting until you are 40 is not an option, as for some it takes years and years to become pregnant, as that is not up to us when that happens but up to a higher power. I believe every woman should try and have a baby at whatever age they feel appropriate, it is not a selfish act by any means, but a very selfless act indeed. There are pros and cons to have having your children young and pros and cons to having your children when you are older. This is just my opionion.
