Can you feel the love? Robert De Niro and Jennifer Lawrence shared some awkward, yet touching, banter on stage at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday, May 14, and it was clear that the frequent costars have nothing but love for one another.

Lawrence, 25, took to the stage to present the veteran actor with the Excellence in Media Award, and immediately ripped into the 72-year-old Oscar winner with some good-natured jabbing.

“Robert De Niro is not gay, so I don’t know why we’re here,” she said with a straight face. “That aside, Bob has asked me to present him with GLAAD’s Excellence in Media Award because, in his words, I am like a daughter to him. And that transpires to our once-a-week drinks at the Greenwich Hotel, where I ask him advice on absolutely everything. And also when he gets drunk and pinches my cheek and says, ‘You remind me of my little Helen’ … who’s 4.”

The Hunger Games actress, who costarred with De Niro in Joy, American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook, went on to praise De Niro as “one of the greatest actors who’s ever lived.”

“His heart is so giving and with his own quiet strength, it’s no wonder that this man, and the incredible organization that is GLAAD, would come together tonight.”

"GLAAD and Bob have a lot in common. They're both gay," Lawrence joked at the award show sponsored by Ketel One, pausing for laughter. "Just kidding. I was told by five different people to cut that and I was like, 'Hell, no.'"

De Niro — who was honored for his role in producing the HBO documentary Remembering the Artist, about his father, who was gay — didn’t miss a beat in getting back at Lawrence, however. When the Taxi Driver star took to the stage to accept his award, he thanked Lawrence for her kind words.

“Thank you, Jen. If I were a lesbian, I'd be all over you," De Niro quipped. "Being a father figure has its limitations. Jennifer Lawrence is not only a great actress, she's a respectful and loving friend."
