There’s another Jamie in the Spears family! Jamie Lynn Spears’ fans met her husband, Jamie Watson, during her TLC special, Jamie Lynn Spears: When the Lights Go Out, on Sunday, June 26, and he’s refreshingly normal. Here, Us Weekly rounds up five things to know about the 34-year-old.
1. He didn’t know Jamie Lynn was famous.
When they met, Watson was unaware that his now-wife was the little sister of megastar Britney Spears. “I’m just a normal guy with a normal job,” he said during the TLC special. “I did not know about the family. I didn’t know she had a TV show. I didn’t know anything about her.“
2. He’s a businessman.
Watson owns Advanced Media Partners, a communication service that provides high-end electronics and high-definition television sets to corporations. “I think she could have done a lot better,” he joked during the one-hour special. “I guess I’m pretty lucky.”
3. They met through mutual friends.
Jamie Lynn and Watson first started dating in 2010 after Jamie Lynn split from her ex-fiancé Casey Aldridge. “Me and Jamie dated for about five years before we got married … but we broke up here and there, so maybe we dated for about four years,” the “Sleepover” singer, 25, shared during her tell-all. The pair wed in 2014 in New Orleans and currently reside in Watson’s home in Louisiana.
4. It wasn’t love at first sight.
Jamie revealed during the TLC special that there wasn’t an immediate connection. “But it was love pretty quick,” the businessman admitted. “I think we grew on each other, which is probably why we are still together.” The “When the Lights Go Out” singer also wasn’t immediately attracted to her husband. “He was kind of awkward and kind of weird,” the Zoey 101 alum said. “He was always uncomfortable. … looking back though, I think it’s kind of sweet, because he was acting that way because obviously he liked me.”
5. He loves Jamie Lynn’s daughter Maddie like his own.
Watson revealed he proposed to Jamie Lynn after he fell in love with her and her 8-year-old daughter. “I knew I wanted to marry her when basically I had fallen in love with Maddie just as much as her,” he told the camera on Sunday’s special. “And I couldn’t not be a part of her or Maddie’s life.” Britney’s little sister felt equally as comfortable. “I didn’t feel anxious or any of that stuff. I just felt safe,” she shared.
As previously reported by Us Weekly, Jamie Lynn found out she was pregnant at the age of 16 in a gas station bathroom. The former Disney star welcomed her daughter with ex Aldridge in June 2008.
