Jamie Otis took to Instagram to pay tribute to the son she lost last year on what would’ve been his first birthday. Her first son, Johnathan Edward, with husband Doug Hehner was due on December 20, 2016, but the Married at First Sight star suffered a miscarriage.

Otis shared a heartbreaking photograph on Wednesday, December 20, of the couple holding their first child at the hospital. “We’ve been MIA on social media today – Spent the whole day thinking of this little guy.💙 I imagine him up in heaven bouncing on clouds curled up in his Grandma Dot’s arms.👼🏼 Today he would have been one year old if he had ever made it to his due date,” she captioned the photo. “Tomorrow we are buying a little one-year-old boy named Dylan Christmas presents in honor of our little boy Johnathan Edward. …looking at Henley makes me wonder what he would have been like. Can’t wait to meet in heaven again one day.🙏🏻 #neverforget #babyboy #pregnancyloss #awareness.”

The couple announced that they were pregnant again in February, just six months after she revealed that she had lost her first child in July 2016. “We’re so stinking excited,” Otis told Us Weekly at the time. “We’ve been pretty much trying since we lost our first.”

Otis and Hehner met on season 1 of Married at First Sight in 2014. In their spinoff Lifetime series, Jamie and Doug Plus One, the couple opened up about the vulnerability they experienced during their second pregnancy. “After we lost our son Jonathan, you want to guard your heart so you don’t suffer that pain again if God forbid something happened,” Otis said in a clip from the show. Hehner, 34, added: “Even though we know what happened was rare and every doctor tells you that it’s very rare to happen a second time, you still sit and worry that something could go wrong.”

The 31-year-old welcomed her daughter Henley Grace on August 22 and told Us Weekly at the time that they believed their son is watching over them and their new child. “When we were pregnant with our first baby, Doug and I decided if it was a girl we would name her Henley,” Otis told Us. “Unfortunately, we lost our firstborn son, Johnathan. But we believe he has been up in heaven watching over his little sister and protecting her. Henley Grace has been bouncing and moving all around inside me.”

“We don’t have the most traditional love story and we certainly didn’t meet and fall in love in a ‘normal’ way, but we believe that love is love and it doesn’t matter how you get it or where you find it — just cherish it,” she added. “You never know, you may end up with your own Henley Grace.”
