Joanna and Chip Gaines appeared on the Tuesday, April 24, episode of Today to promote her new cookbook Magnolia Table. And while the food looked heavenly (chicken pot pie, anyone!?) Chip kept stealing hungry glances at his wife, who is pregnant with their fifth child.
“Prior to my relationship with Joanna, I always dated slightly bigger-boned girls,” quipped the Fixer Upper star. “So whenever Jo is pregnant, it’s kind of my thing. It’s kind of my jam.” The 43-year-old joked that he “needed to get that out there,” as Joanna, 40, laughed and steered the topic back to pot pies and biscuits.
The Waco, Texas-based HGTV costars are parents of Drake, 13, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, and Emmie Kay, 8. In January, the Gaines’ announced they were expecting No. 5 — a boy.
“I was excited. Me and the boys were team boy,” Chip said on Today. “The girls were team girl.” So Joanna thinks it’s only fair that she get to choose the little boy’s moniker.
“I want a C name and [Chip] wants a D name,” she revealed. “I say he got the boy so I get to pick the name!”
Joanna and Chip announced in September that that season 5 of Fixer Upper will be their last. The final episode aired on April 3. “With our little ones getting bigger, we had this gut feeling that it was time to step back and focus on them,” Joanna wrote in a blog post earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Chip isn’t the only one enjoying Joanna’s pregnancy. She shared that the experience “has been so fun,” because her kids are so excited to welcome a new sibling. “Since I had our first four babies so close to one another, none of them actually remember me being pregnant,” she wrote in the blog post. “They love my growing belly (and boy is it growing) and they can’t wait to meet him.”
