Dealing with the haters. Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry has opened up about the impact of being body-shamed on social media.
“Out of 10 years on tv I’m having the hardest time NOW. The pressure of outsiders, the criticism, the judgement. Sure i put myself out there. But never in my life have i seen or felt cruelty like i have lately,” the MTV personality, 25, began in a series of tweets on Monday, January 29. “’It comes with the territory’ no s—t. But it seems to get worse over time. Not better. Sometimes I’m numb to it. Sometimes i don’t read it. Sometimes it doesn’t bother me … But sometimes it does. And today it does.”
Lowry, who first appeared on MTV’s 16 and Pregnant in 2010, has starred on Teen Mom 2 since it premiered in January 2011. She recently made headlines for her plans to travel to Miami for plastic surgery, but backed out before the procedures. Lowry revealed on January 23 via Twitter that she made the decision not to have the surgeries because she knows she can lose the weight on her own.
“I can read & write books, study for a test and pass, teach my kids manners. But i can’t tell myself to pick a f—ing salad over a burger and then wonder why i struggle in the gym,” the mother of three wrote on Monday. “Hate myself for it. Then come online & hear it from everyone else too … Paparazzi f—ed my own head up after they sold the pix of me on the beach.”
She continued, “I didn’t go through w my surgeries in Miami so let’s sell unflattering pix of Kail @ the beach so everyone can see her fat & cellulite to make her regret cancelling … Ok I’m done crying about it.”
The reality TV star spoke exclusively to Us Weekly about why she thinks she is the most bullied member of the Teen Mom franchise.
“I think some of it has to do with being outspoken,” explained Lowry — who shares 8-year-old son Issac with ex-boyfriend Jo Rivera, 4-year-old son Lincoln with ex-husband Javi Marroquin and 5-month-old son Lux with ex Chris Lopez — on January 25. “Some of it has to do with being misunderstood and a lot of it is the judgment of the fact that all my children have different fathers. People comment on my weight and body and my kids’ fathers the most.”
