Mark Ballas

Mark Ballas (born Mark Alexander Ballas Jr.) is a professional dancer, choreographer, musician and actor best known for his longtime run as a pro on Dancing With the Stars, where he won the Mirrorball Trophy three times. Born in Houston, Texas, to championship ballroom dancers Corky Ballas and Shirley Ballas, Mark moved to London as a child, where he trained in dance, music and acting at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. He won several junior ballroom titles before launching his television career.

Mark joined Dancing With the Stars as a professional dancer in 2007 and quickly became a breakout star. He won the competition with Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson and Charli D’Amelio, earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Choreography in 2011.

Off the dance floor, Mark has appeared on several Broadway productions, including Jersey Boys and Kinky Boots, and performs as one half of the musical duo Alexander Jean alongside his wife, singer-songwriter BC Jean. Together, the pair have released various singles, including “Roses and Violets,” “Waiting For You” and “For Anybody Wondering.” His career spanning dance, acting and music, has made him one of the most recognizable professionals from the Dancing With the Stars franchise.

Ballas began dating Jean in 2012. The couple tied the knot in November 2016. They welcomed their son, Banksi Wylde Ballas, in 2023.
