Ellen Pompeo

Ellen Pompeo is an actress best known for her lead role as Meredith Grey on the ABC show Grey’s Anatomy. She made her TV debut in 1996 on Law & Order and her film debut in 1999 with a small part in Coming Soon.

In 2002, Pompeo received her first lead role in Brad Silberling’s film Moonlight Mile (2002). That same year, she was also cast in Catch Me If You Can (2002). In 2005, she landed her most prominent role as the title character and protagonist of Grey’s Anatomy.

Pompeo made her directorial debut on the 13th season of Grey’s Anatomy. In October 2011, she launched her own production company, Calamity Jane. She stepped back as a series regular on Grey’s in 2023, but she remains an executive producer and narrator on each episode. She still appears in several episodes each season.

Pompeo is married to Chris Ivery, whom she met in 2003. After being friends for six months, they began dating and married in 2007. Together, they have three children: daughters Stella Luna (born 2009) and Sienna May (born 2014 via surrogate) and son Eli Christopher (born 2016).
