Carrie Coon is an Emmy-nominated actress known for her acclaimed performances in film, television and theater. Coon was raised in Copley, Ohio, the middle of five children. She attended the University of Mount Union, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish. She later received a master’s degree in acting from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, laying the groundwork for a career rooted in classical and contemporary theater.

Coon began her career onstage, working extensively in regional theater and later becoming a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. Her screen breakthrough came in 2014 with Gone Girl, in which she played Ben Affleck’s sharp-tongued twin sister. The role brought her widespread attention and opened the door to major television and film opportunities.

She went on to star in HBO’s The Leftovers from 2014 to 2017, earning a Critics’ Choice Television Award for her performance, and later received Emmy nominations for her performances in Fargo and The Gilded Age. Her film credits include Widows (2018), The Post (2017) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018), in which she voiced Proxima Midnight. In 2025, she joined the ensemble cast of HBO Max’s The White Lotus as Laurie Duffy.

Coon married playwright and actor Tracy Letts in 2013. The couple shares two children, a son (born in 2018) and a daughter (born in 2021).
