Lawyers for Britney Spears and Kevin Federline were in a Los Angeles family courtroom Tuesday morning, arguing that their ongoing custody case should remain sealed from the public.
An attorney for several media outlets filed an objection to Mark Vincent Kaplan's request to seal the records relating to his August 8 filing which requested that the court grant Federline primary custody of sons Sean Preston, 23 months, and Jayden James, 11 months. The motion in opposition of the seal states, "if public court business is conducted in private, it becomes impossible to expose corruption, incompetence, inefficiency, prejudice, and favoritism."
A hearing to evaluate the objections was set for September 14.
Outside the courthouse, Spears' lawyer Laura Wasser told Usmagazine.com, "The public's right to know is not outweighed by Federline's right to keep his kids safe. You have got to wonder why the public interest in this case is so great."
K-Fed's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, spoke at length about today's hearing and his client's aims. About the media's objection to the sealing of documents, he told the press, "Anytime you have a case with a minor child it is important that the children be protected."
On the topic of the initial decision to file for more custody, Kaplan explained, "Kevin is convinced that the more time he spends with the kids the more insulated they are from risk."
And what about the recent subpoenas of Spears' cousin Alli Sims and former bodyguard Daimon Shippen? Kaplan said, "Kevin is pursuing relevant information from all relevant sources...There will be others [subpoenaed] but I won't say who." He added, telling Us, "There is a significant strategy in place that Kevin is going to pursue whatever he needs to do to protect his kids."

Have you been a child star, pushed to perform while you missed out on the standard phases of adolescence, teenage years and early twenties? Have you had every single thing you've ever done broadcast for the world to criticize? Yes, Britney has problems, but it is no one's business but her own. Are her children unsafe? It depends how much you are buying into the paparazzi and Loser-line portrayal of Britney. It wasn't too long ago that Loser-line jumped onto Brit's beautiful body and career for a money ride. When she was home with Sean Preston, who was treating her like crap, cheating on her & spending all of her money? Loser-line. Oh & suddenly he & Shar are so happily co-parenting? What happened to pre-Brit, when they were being evicted from their apt? Suddenly Loser-line has Brit's money... of course Shar suddenly adores him & he is the best thing ever. I think it is absolutely disgusting how all of you are so quick to kick the donkey crap in Brit's face when she is feeling devastated, abandoned, betrayed, etc. I hope people are as nasty to you as you are about her.

im tired of the people applauding kfed for seeking custody of those babies. Anyone who uses their own children for financial reasons makes them as unfit as any other irresponsible parent. Him seeking financial gains proves him the lowlife that i always suspected he always was. Any male who wants to live off women is not a man to me. No one attacked his lack of responsibility when they were married and he spent his days and nights out galvanizing instead of spending time with his children and Brit was at home taking care of the kids. At least Britney is actually with her children. Not that i approve of some of the things she has done. Personally, i think it would be best for Lynne Spears to get temporary custody of the children for a while so that Brit could get some help. We should all be more sympathic to her, because it appears that she is really going through something terrible right now that we don't understand and is doing nothing more than lashing out as a way of crying out for help. i can only pray that she has someone there for her when she hits rock bottom.
