Britney Spears’ aunt Chanda McGovern says that her family fears they will “turn on the TV and find out she is dead.”
McGovern told the British newspaper The Sun that she’s worried Spears’ self-destruction is nearing a breaking point.
“We are very worried that things are going to spiral out of control,” says McGovern, who predicted that “whether it be intentionally or accidental, there may be a drug overdose.”
She added: “We are worried about suicidal tendencies in her.”
Chanda married Spears' uncle 14 years ago. At the time, an 11-year-old Britney sang at the wedding ceremony.
McGovern confessed that her family has been pleading for her to take a break from L.A. and come back to her hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana.
“She has not got a backbone — a family member to help her,” she says. “Her mother was always her backbone. Since they’ve fallen out everything has gone to hell.”
McGovern says she wasn’t surprised that an L.A. judge handed custody of Spears’ sons over to Kevin Federline on Monday.
“The kids came second and her party life came first so it really wasn’t a shock that the kids have been taken away from her.”
The mother-of-three even expressed disapproval over her 25-year-old niece’s choice of undergarments – or lack thereof. “Not wearing panties is not something a true southern girl would do.”
She concluded: “You just want to reach out and grab her and hug her and tell her you love her. I want to knock some sense into her and say, ‘Britney — wake up!’”

I'm wondering...if her family knows/knew all along about these problems..How come they didn't step up and put her in a rehab/ hospital or whatever? They have a responsibility to those little boys,don't they? The fact that they stood back and did nothing to help the situation doesn't say much about their character..I hope that the courts are keeping an eye on the father for drug use etc..It'd be a shame for them to go from one horrible situation to another.
Its obvious to those of us who live in the "real world" that many many celebrities are not expected to follow the law as other mere mortals are..I eagerly anticipate the day when all people regardless of their celebrity status are held to the same laws and punishments.

I don't think the kids are better off with either parent. Britney is going through a traumatic time and she needs some serious help...physically as well as psychologically. And she should have known that all this would happen with Kevin. He left his other girl for her...why wouldn't he do the same thing to Britney? Dumb, dumb, dumb! And as for her aunt spilling everything to the tabloids...that is so stupid. It's just another thing for Britney to read and drown herself in another bottle. Her family needs to be there for her, even if she pushes them away. If someone doesn't help her soon, I'm afraid she is going to die. I'm serious, she needs help.

I agree anon 5:54...magazines dont care if they tell the truth or not, but at the same time, we all buy them so we just show them thats what we are intersted in, so they continue to print false and most of the time hurtful statements. Maybe instead of boycotting Britney or whomever, why dont we boycott one of these magazines for a year and see if things dont change. Its really sad that the top stories in the US are celebrites and their mitakes, its pretty sad that when we see breaking news, its becuase of a celebrtiy and then we hear about the world news afterwards???? Theres something really wrong there.

I thought once the custody thing happened, this frigging magazine would backoff - but, they seem to be even more crazy about reporting accusation, innuendos and interviews with fired employees and backstabbing relatives. It is the desire of some the press to have Britney become the next hollywood tradgedy so that they can profit off her death. What would be better for US magazine than for Britney to have some sort of tragic accident, so they can sell more magazine for at least a year after, talking about her. It's the same thing they did to Princess Diana, and most recently to Anna Nicole. They said the most negative, hurtful things about them, and then profited when they turned up dead, selling magazine about their death, and the children they left behind. Britney is simply a meal ticket to the editors of this magazine. They don't care whether she lives or dies, they only care about how they can profit from it all.

Oh Auntie, Why did you think going to a magazine that doesn't care ANYTHING about Britney, and telling them this is really going to help Britney?! Why didn't the aunt just call Britney on the telephone, and tell her this. What is the purpose of going to a magazine about a family matter like this. Seems to me this auntie is not such a good, and concerned auntie, but someone looking to make a quick buck selling yet another interview. I feel so sorry for Britney, some of her family members are such scum.
