Four More Idols Sent Packing: Did America Get It Right?

After all the will-she-or-won’t she drama in recent days, Antonella Barba, 20, did not get voted off last night. Viewers in New Jersey may be thankful, but we at Usmagazine.com, the Idol connoisseurs that we are, think America got the vote wrong.

Granted the juicy Idol “Who will win?” hoopla won’t begin until the group is pared to 12, but after this week’s live results show, it was especially sad to see the kids go. Let it be noted that most of this week’s Idol rejects should have merited at least one more week. Even Simon Cowell agreed. And no one messes with Sir Cowell. C’mon, America, how many times must Simon, Paula and Randy tell you: “Vote [based on] the singing!”

This week’s group performance was a meager “Joy to the World,” but thankfully, the Idol choreographers treated us to a much simpler – and less cheesetastic – routine.

As Ryan Seacrest prepared to deliver the elimination report in that quick n’ dirty fashion we’ve come to love, none of the evictees - Nick Pedro, 25, Leslie Hunt, 24, AJ Tabaldo, 22, and Alaina Alexander, 24 - seemed super shocked to be there.

Alexander managed to keep her cool despite having to pack her bags after a fun but uneven performance Wednesday of the Dixie Chicks’ smash “Not Ready To Make Nice.” Simon’s comment that she “ran out of steam” didn’t faze the mature Californian, who offered a pointed “Clever” when Mr. Nasty’s harsh commentary was recapped. A decidedly dejected Alaina then muddled through a reprise of her Dixie tune flanked by her Idol girls.

But the best results show moment didn’t involve one of this season’s contestants but rather last season’s aw-shucks go-to gal Kellie Pickler. The Southern belle performed on the show to promote her debut disc “Small Town Girl,” but it was her pre-performance interview with Seacrest that made us chuckle.

“So, have you spent your money on anything since you left us?” inquired the host, no doubt indirectly inquiring about Pickler’s noticeably ample bosom. The audience was clearly in on the joke, but poor Pickler’s candid reply indicated it went right over her head. “Shoes. Lots of shoes.” Ah, Kellie, glad you’re still the simple Southern gal we know and love.
