America Idol champ Ruben Studdard is engaged to his girlfriend Surata Zuri McCants, 30, his rep confirmed to Usmagazine.com on Monday.
The pair obtained a marriage license at the Shelby County Probate Office in Birmingham Alabama on Monday.
An Alabama marriage license is valid for 30 days.
Studdard, 29, isn't the only Idol season 2 alum with big news.
Clay Aiken is expecting a child with his producer Jaymes Foster.
The baby is due on August.

there was no need to reference Ruben's Idol competitor in this article, which deals with Mr. Studdard's personal life, which seems to be going nicely for him. I hope Ruben and his bride find much happiness together. Marriage is not an easy thing, and it takes a lot of compromise and understanding besides "love" to make it work.
ps-the "news" you tacked on about C.A. is unsubstantiated rumor never verified by anyone personally involved with Ms. Foster's apparent pregnancy. Started at a gossip site, and carried on from there as if it were gospel. As if it were anyone's business anyway. Celebrities have the right to decide what they care to share with the public. They owe us nothing but good entertainment. Remember this basic commandment: "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor," or this one: "Do unto others as you would have done unto you." Shame on all the gossip sites and magazines for the degradation of American society. With your skills and power, you (as a collective entity) should be working to better our world instead of bringing it down to the lowest common denominator!
